Clomid and Injection Mix -- IUI

April 29, 2008

Hi Dr,

Ok. Here's my deal... I took clomid 3 times and have never been successful. Now I am going to an RE and am ready to start my first try with IUI cycle. So..here's what he has given me. Days 3-7 take Clomid, and then on day 12 go in for ultrasound and then he will determine whether or not I will need to take the GONAL F-75. Then depending on that he will then I am sure tell me when to do the trigger shot so that I can do the IUI. I am a little confused as to why he is making me take clomid again if it never worked in the first place and also why he will wait to decide on the gonal f on the 12th day. I just dont want this to be a waste of money/cycle if we already know that the clomid really wasn't useful for me, do you see my point. Any advice or opinion would be great. I can always e mail him before tomorrows 3rd day ultrasound to find out what the sittuation is.

Thanks a million!

That's strange... I can't figure out why they would make you take something that didn't work for you before. Hmm... Dr Q?

have you ovulated on clomid and just not gotten preggo or no ovulation on clomid?

I would ask for something stronger for sure. Have you been monitored on clomid by u/s or is thi sthe 1st time with that.

Why not just put you on injectables this time and then you wil have a better chance of being sucessful. I would deff talk to him about other option, a more agressive treatment, esp if uou are paying out of pocket for this.

Combination cycles are commonly used, but the gonadotropins are usually started right when the clomid is stopped and can always ask for this...These cycles are great for PCOS patients as REs worry tremendously of recruiting too many follicles when using gonadotropins alone...Whereas Clomid can select out a follicle or two, then these are fed with the gonadotropins to promote their growth...

oh ok. that definitely answers the question! ::) i have never been actually monitored while on the clomid...so maybe that's what this will all be about. i e mailed my doctor so hopefully i will be able to get an answer from him soon! :) i just dont want to spend 2000 dollars and then end up with nothing but a bust-- when i knew all along that my body didn't respond to clomid- ya know what i mean.
