Can you become pregnant after taking the emergency contraception?

November 25, 2007

Hi. I was hoping someone will have an answer to this. After I had unprotected sex on the 11th day of my cycle, i took the emergency contraception as directed. However, after taking the emergency contraception, my husband and i decided we wanted to have a baby so continued to have unprotected sex, including on the 14th day of cycle (supposedly my ovulation day). Does the taking of the emergency contraception pill mean i have no chance of conceiving in this cycle? How effective are those pills and how many days will they stop fertilisation? I am now on my 24th day of my cycle, and have somebleeding. Is this just implantation bleeding or could it be my actual period? It's just alittle odd because my cycle is always every 28 days. Please help!

hi cate,

AS Far as i know abt contraception pills, the pregnancy can be avoided if takin with 72 hrs of havin unprotected sex,..if u have nt ovulated on the day, u took the pill, thn it ll stop the egg been released n if the egg is been already released, it ll stop the sperm frm fertizin the egg...but u said u had unprtd sex after takin the pill too...so, there are 80 - 85% chances tht u might nt become preg..bt its not sure!!!

gud luk!!

Hi ppp,

Thanks for your reply. My husband and i have been putting off having kids for the longest time, then when all this happened, we decided we actually want them! So we're hoping we still have hope within this cycle... but you're right. The chances do look slim!
