Can my iron pills be causing this heartburn?

Hi Dr.Q. For the last 3 weeks I have had wicked heartburn to a point where it feels like I am being stabbed in the chest. My doctor has me on a prenatal vitamin that contains 27mg of iron plus she is getting me to take two 300mg tablets of ferrous cluconate per day. A friend of mine told me that it is all this iron that is giving me heart burn. My last docs appointment they checked my iron levels and they were fine but the doctor put me on this because I am having twins. Could it be this that is giving me such awful heartburn?

Pregnancy especially with twins will cause heartburn this badly, and tums +/- pepcid types of meds can help (safe in pregnancy) under your docs supervision..
