Can low Blood Sugar cause Fatigue? I am pregnant

November 22, 2008

My husband is a diabetic. We have just started REALLY changing our eating habits. Well I have been tired & borderline sick all day. I had brown sugar oatmeal (he wasnt home lol) for breakfast. I still did not feel any better. So then when he came home an hour later, I took his BS & for fun I took mine...it was 63. I think that is a lil low, since I had already ate & had sugar too. Could I be experiencing so much fatigue bcz my sugar is too low? Am I just worrying for nothing? Should I even mention it to my DR? thanks!

Yes, one can have a tired feeling when their insulin is borderline low...

More severe symptoms start to occur when sugar falls <60 and if taking insulin and this value occurred midday (not upon awakening) let your doc know

If one isn't on Insulin, then this value is Ok as Diabetes is the opposite, too much sugar not enough insulin... The converse is exceptionally rare

I am not on insulin or any other diabetic meds. This happened mid day, but this evening I have went back into the low 90"s & do feel better!

thanks for the info DrQ!

Hey Mrs..my son and brother have diabetes and my son never feels his lows, but my brother is an adult and he says he always feels worse when his sugar is around the 60 range then when it drops real low like the 40s for some reason. So yep, you were feeling a symptom of a low blood sugar and this is common too, so you can eat smaller and more frequent meals to make sure this doesn't keep happening to you :) Snacks with protein will help sustain your blood sugars too :)
