Can I stop worrying (or at least worry less) now?

September 10, 2008

I had an ultrasound today, baby measured at 7 weeks 5 days with a heart rate of 168.

Am I right in thinking that the chances of miscarrying are quite a bit less now that we have seen a heartbeat?

Internet info seems mixed on this and some places say that the odds don't really decrease until a heartbeat is seen or heard at 10 or 12 weeks. I've had two miscarriages - both before 6 weeks - in the last year so I've been really anxious and would love some reassurance that we are really on track to actually HAVE this baby.

I've heard 12 weeks. Once your past the first trimester your chances decreases significantly.

I don't mean to make you worry more but I saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks and still miscarried at 8. Just pay attention to your body and try not to worry.

*bump*

After reading a bit more it looks like the chances of miscarrying after seeing a heartbeat at 6 weeks are still about 10%, but after a heartbeat at 8 weeks the chances drop to about 2%.

Does that sound right to you, Dr. Q?

And is 7 weeks 5 days close enough to 8 weeks that I can relax a little bit?

minna, you can relax & enjoy your pregnancy. Just make sure you take it really easy for the next few weeks. Good Luck & *******Sticky Glue*******
