September 10, 2007

My last period was July 23, I have went to the dr on the 3

1st of august and he told me my uterus linning was thick that I should have a menstral soon, I take provera for 5 days, it is 6 days after the last pill and still no period, I started metformin on the 31st as well, I started to feel sick to my stomach (side effect) but I was wondering could I still have ovulated evening though my last period was in July, and is it tru that u can get pregnant without a period?

Hi Keysfergy,

try an hpt and let us know what it shows. If still negative, would wait at least another week for your period. If still not positive then, would recheck another hpt as it's possible you may have ovulated just prior to taking the provera...and is so, there is a small chance of pregnancy.

To answer your last question, A period only occurs after you ovulate and you don't get pregnant. One can ovulate anytime, but a period will always come about 14 days after ovulation unless pregnant.

but I went to my gyno and had a transvirgina ultrasound and we check my ovaries he said they are a lil larger than reguler, but he gave me some med to take for it,I didnt saw any kind of fetus implanted in the uterus, so could I ovulated after taking the provera?

so your saying in order for me to have a period I must ovulate, but I have pcos, so is there still a chance that I can get pregnant even though my cycles are long apart and am on metformin?

Hi keysfergy,

Provera brings about a withdrawal bleed, and would encourage you to read more about this and PCOS on this site. If you ovulate, then you can get pregnant, when you ovulate is the trickier thing to know when it happens if you have PCOS. It can always take however long for you to ovulate, this is why menstrual cycles vary in length, but once you ovulate, you should get a period in about 14 days except if you're pregnant.

Hi keysfergy! :-)

Before I was started on Clomid, I was also put on Provera for three cycles. On the first two cycles, my periods could arrive when I was on the 10th pill. On the third cycle, however, my period did not arrive until 15 days AFTER my last pill...which was really odd. I actually saw my doc on the 14th day after my last pill and was very worried why my period did not start on Provera. I was worked up for PCOS, all the blood tests, etc...and they all came back normal. The next day, my period came. I was getting paranoid why my period was not coming yet...I thought I was pregnant, but all my betas have confirmed I wasn't. But it did arrive. I understand it is sooo hard to wait when you want something so bad. We want to have a baby as bas as everyone else is on fertility ties. Just try to relax and wait a couple more days. It will arrive when you least expect it. :-) Good luck and BABY DUST!! (Lots of it!)
