Can anyone explain the HSG procedure to me?

Can anyone explain the HSG procedure to me? How is it done? Do you know what kind of dye is used? I'm allergic to iodine dye, so I'm hoping that it's a different kind. Also, where in the cycle is it usually performed? And has anyone had any success getting insurance to cover it? Thanks!

Basically, is like a vaginal ultrasound, just a little longer... they introduce a thin tube with liquid which is pumped in your uterus and they can see on the screen if your uterus is healthy, and bubbles can be observed sometimes going through your fallopian tubes to indicate that they are open... make sure you take your analgesics! it was quite painful to me, but I heard that it should not be painful, and I have read other women experiences which are not painful at all... maybe it was painful to me because I had some adhesions of the ovary... I don't know, but it is an excellent procedure to diagnose the uterus, and tubes without opening or doing laparoscopy ;).... about the iodine, I think they have an alternative (but I don't know...) My insurance blue cross blue shield covered the expenses, the most expensive thing is the rental of the equipment... and it was covered...

When I had it done, the only way my insurance would cover it, was because my doctor worded it right. He said that it was medically necessary. I was having pain in the reproductive organ area, and he wanted to see if it was because of an infection after my ectopic. The insurance then covered it all under "necessary tests". I also agree with others... I have not conceived since having the procedure done. The doctor in this case found out that one ovary is damaged, possibly non- functioning. (the tube on that side exploded) Now I am not sure if anything is working right. If anything, the test dashed my hopes instead of helping. He told me that we should seriously consider adoption!

Aww DC9.. im so sorry to hear that hun. U never know what is going to happen when u have these tests done and u never know what they are going to find out until after the tests are over. Lets hope with the prayers at we send to God that u will get to conceive.

Wishing u lots of luck on ur jouney.
