Ok Dr. Q or any other Dr on FT/ladies, I have an ultrasound scheduled at 14 weeks excatly and I wan tot know if that is too early to have the gender deterimined? I'm hoping they can tell me then, but I was wondering what's the earliest via ultrasound that one can find out the gender of the baby?

Also ladies I'd like to know if any of you found out at 14 weeks.

they can tell as early as 12 weeks but its not 100% because its still hard to tell. I think 20 weeks is the "norm" but you can find out way earlier it all depends on how well their sonogram machines are =) Good luck!

The earliest that's usually recommended to be sure of gender is about 15wks, 16wks preferable

I found out the gender of my baby at 19 weeks. If you live far from the clinic and you would like to find out the sex then I would maybe reschedule for 16 weeks. Are you going for another fetal assessment ultrasound at around 20 weeks? 20 weeks they will be able to tell you the gender for sure! I went for my fetal assessment at 19 weeks on the nose and you could definitly tell I was having a boy! Good Luck and keep us posted!

My friend was told at 12 weeks but with 60% accuracy. But the determination was correct. My u/s tech wouldnt even look at 12 weeks so we found out at 17.5 weeks. Good Luck :)

Hi Katie, just to say in my experience it seems easier to 'tell early' if its a boy but that may be just luck than anything! With my 3rd son they told me ohh that looks like a boy at 14 weeks, confirmed boy 99% at 18 weeks and it was. With my current prego I had scan at 16 weeks and it was VERY obvious again that it was indeed another boy and again you could see it very clearly. Again at my 20 week scan again showed a boy. Now at my hospital policy is that they wont tell you what the gender is, but its plainly obvious with a boy and no mistaking it. If you do a quick google search for gender scans at 16 weeks you can see it and you will see what I mean - if its a boy - there is little hiding the goods. Its less clear to the untrained eye however if its a girl (at least it seemed that way to me).

katie you are scheduled for this appt. because you had to reschedule the one from yesturday, I wouldn't reschedule it again if I were you, they like to see you every 4 weeks at the longest. I wouldn't put off a needed appt. just cuz you wanna be able to know the sex when you go. I would just go, its whats best for the baby and you wont have to wait as long to hear that heartbeat and feel better about all your worries.... but thats just my opinion.

I have to go back to the Dr's in ONE week, because my blood pressure was kind of high 132 over 92. So instead of waiting 4 weeks they want to see me in just 1, to run some tests... I'm like, OK. I hope I get to hear the heartbeat again =) But I doubt it cuz I'll only be 9 weeks and wont get an internal u/s again.

Katie,

I found out at 12 weeks with 70% accuracy. I was going to a fetal diagnostic center not my regular OB because I'm high risk. They have the latest technology. They told me girl and its still a girl. When I was in the hospital this week they did another u/s and she's still a she :)
