I went to my 20 week ultrasound today and the tech was so sweet. She said she is not a Dr. so she is going to take a few more pics of the neck and heart and have the radiologist call me. this is my 3rd baby and she has done my ultrasounds throughout this pregnancy AND my last one and this is the first time she has made that comment. So like an idiot I googled different things and found down syndrome being a big indicator if the neck fold (??) is bigger than normal. I know you CANNOT diagnose this with ultrasound only but I am wondering if it looks like my baby may have a marker for it. His femur bones are measuring about a week behind everything else as well. I am terrified buy eitherway will continue to love and adore my baby boy. Just by looking do you think this looks normal or maybe something could be off? THANKS SOOOOO MUCH!!!!

I'm not a dr or a nurse or an u/s tech, but the nuchal fold test (neck) isn't relevent and can't really be done beyond 14 weeks from what my dr told me. I looked at the u/s and it looks like there is a nasal bone (again, I'm by no means an expert), but the presence of a nasal bone suggests no ds. I would definitely contact your dr with your concerns though.

PS: he is handsome! congrats!

Did you have the early screening test for Down's Syndrome? There are 2 options for this test, one is an US combined with bld work done before 14 wks & then other is just blood work done betweeen 16-20. The Nuchal Fold doesn't offer much significance when measured outside of the gestational age for the combined screen which is between 11-14 wks. I can't see a nasal bone in this pic but that doesn't mean it isn't there. Depending on what the tech saw your doc may refer you for a more detailed US to check for any more issues. Down's syndrome is very difficult to detect on an US at this stage in pregnancy unless there is a related heart defect or abnormal facial features. I would call your docs office tomorrow to find out what they recommend but I wouldn't worry too much about it between now & then. If you did have either of the screening tests then your risks are very low that this is down's syndrome.
