can a wife develop antisperm antibodies?

November 11, 2008

Hi Dr. Q.

Here goes my question and I apologize in advance to anyone who may be offended by my question but noone seems to have an answer to it.

Can a woman develop anti sperm antibodies from ingesting her husband's sperm? I have heard that the sperm would have to come in contact with her blood in order to develop antibodies but what if she has gingivitis (sore gums and bleeding gums) when she ingests it. If this is possible, would the antibodies be present in only the blood and not the cervical mucous or would it be present in both?

Again, my apologies for offense taken but I need to ask this question. thanks so much

A wife can develop antisperm antibodies, but unclear who can develop them and why..

Wouldn't worry too much about the method described above that may provoke anti-sperm antibodies, and these antibodies become important if found in cervical mucus primarily

thanks so much Dr. Q.

I also meant to ask if I could develop antibodies later on in our relationship after having 2 successful pregnancies? We have 2 children and are trying for a third but no luck.

dr. Q,

Sorry to bother you again. I'm so glad you're here. I just wanted to clarify your first post. Did you say the above described method may provoke antibodies or that it shoudn't provoke it?
