Breast question (dry)

April 26, 2008

I really hope this is not too graphic to post...so sorry if it's TMI but I need to get this taken care of in the next few days.

I've been having dry nipples for a few weeks now. Not cracked, just dry and not directly on the nipple but more around the areola and close up to the base of my nipples. Itchy and dry. I've been using the curel pregnancy/motherhood cream and I love it but if I forget a day, my nipples get bad all over again. So what can I about this? I'm goin in to have the baby by induction on Thurs, May 1st and I don't want to start breastfeeding with dry nipples. I'm sure the baby will do a number on them on his own. So any advice???

Sar, look in the breastfeeding section... there's a productin a yellow package... it's all natural i think and safe EVEN when you're actually breastfeeding... it may be from Medela... my sister used it when she was breastfeeding my nephew and her nipples would get cracked and dry. I hope you can find it and your nipples get better.

Ok, thanks kelli and Oliver.

Hope, OMG, I would actually LOVE it if you and I delivered on the same day but I have a feelin you may go in before me and you def will if Cam's lungs aren't developed enough on Tuesday. You better stay close to home and have your Mom with ya when you go out. lol Now I'm sure I'll panic if you aren't on for a day...wondering if you went in. lol

Sar2222 I also had that and used the Lansinoh cream and it worked great... they also say not to use soap on the nipples as it drys them ....

can't wait to hear when baby cam makes his Grand Enterance!

Yes i think it was Lansinoh... all i know was that it was yellow and my sister used it and called it crack for her nipples. LOL

You know, I bet Neutrogena Hand Cream would help heal the girls before baby arrives. Anytime I have a painfully dry patch anywhere, it's Neutrogena to the rescue.

And, of course, there's Bag Balm. In the even you don't already feel like a cow (as I do), Bag Balm is a salve made for dry cow udders. Even the web site says, "Helps soothe bruised, sore or injured teats."...of course, it's cow teats.

It's now sold as intense hand therapy for humans, as they discovered farmers who used Bag Balm had the lovliest hands. Again, I wouldn't use it while nursing, but to heal yourself before hand, it might not be a bad idea. :)

Oh...and a Wikipedia entry about Bag Balm, proving I'm not crazy:

omg alikk, you made me laugh so hard about the cow teats. :))))) Hey I'm up for anything, do you know how embarassing it is to scratch your boobs in public? lmao!!!

awww mrs trgn, matt is sitting here with me now and you just brought a huge smile to his face askin about him. He just loves the attention :)))) He's doing good, he's my good Matty-boy!!!

Good! I am glad he is doing well. Tell him I said stay the angel he is. ;-)

I had dry nipples/ cracked nipples as well after my son was born. My nurse told me to put a little of my own breast milk on them and let them dry. Crazy enough - it worked - I nursed for 2 years! But I guess this is only a solution after the baby is born... :-)Thought I'd throw that out there!

thanks Thunder, I'll try that if it gets worse.
