It really depends on how often you will be pumping. If its several times a day, I would go with a hospital grade. If not..Medela is a great pump and they have several. Get on their website and it will help you choose one according to how much you use it etc.
Breast pump

Hi
I want to buy a breast pump can anyone help in choosing best breast pump .

Ok, this is an area I'm an expert in. I exclusively pumped for my daughter for 7 1/2 months.
First, HOSPITAL GRADE pumps are usually over $800. So what most people are talking about here are NOT hospital grade. That would be a Medela Lactina or Symphony. These are the rentable kind.
A high-grade personal use pump from Medela is my choice. That would be any of their Pump In Style pumps. These are NOT rentable and are recommended for only one mom. I recommend the Medela PIS Advanced in the METRO bag. THe biggest reason is that the pump is removable from teh bag... not the case with most of their other PIS models.
If, however, you don't think you'll do more than an occaisional pump for going out, perhaps a lower grade pump will be fine.
My recommendation is to do your research while pregnant, but wait till after birth to invest (unless you expect someone to buy it for you ... in which case, DO NOT OPEN IT! They're NOT returnable if the seal has been broken). For instance, if you register for a Medela Harmony, but then determine you need a higher power pump than that, you're looking at having Harmony that you'll never use, then you'd have to belly up the $300+ for the PISA.
Sorry for the book, but pumping is something I'm quite passionate about teaching people.

Medela Pump in Style is my first pick.
I was given one from my Aunt and I used it exclusively for my first born. It was wonderful and did everything it was supposed to do. I also pumped with my second DD, but not exclusively.
The pump is well worth the money, they are dependable, long lasting, and work very well for everyday use as well as for on the go. Another plus, all of the bottles and accessories are BPA free!

Wise choice Venus. Medela is the expert in pumps. That's what they did first and other stuff came after.
Most other companies were bottle makers who started making pumps later.
So, Medela is the expert in the field.
Also, you don't HAVE to go with Medela bottles. They use a standard neck, so you can go with Dr. Browns, Evenflow, Ventaire, etc... so long as it has that standard neck to it!

Melissa, I had so many problems with my ds and I bf him for 6 months. When I went back to work, my damn pumps kept braking b/c I had to pump 7 times a day. I do have a Medela, but it was bought from Target and not that great of a grade. Now these Symphony and PIS that are online, how many times a day can u pump with them?? Thanks
Symphony is over $1000 if new. They are commonly used at hospitals. Our NICU had one that floated from one mom to the next... probably was used 8-10 times a day sometimes.
I have mentored gals who EP (Exclusively Pump) and many of them used PIS's that many times a day. But, at 6 months old, you shouldn't have had to pump so many times a day. Usually, I mentor moms to pump as many times as your baby takes a bottle. A 6-monther should've been taking 4-5 bottles a day, so you'd pump 4-5 times.
I personally had an oversupply and only HAD to pumpt 3x/day most of the time I did it.
Stick with Medela, higher end ones or rent a hospital grade. They are made for that kinda of use!

TOO FUNNY... IM PUMPING AS WE SPEAK! I PURCHASED THE MEDELA PUMP IN STYLE AND LOVE IT. WELL WORTH THE MONEY! MY TWINS ARE ALMOST 4 WEEKS OLD... I STARTED PUMPING ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO TO BUILD EXTRA SUPPLY AND GIVE ME A BREAK EVERY ONCE IN WHILE. I PUMP AFTER A COUPLE FEEDINGS A DAY AND IF I AM AWAY AT A FEEDING TIME. I GET ANYWHERE FROM 6-10 OZ OF MILK IN 10 MINUTES WHICH I THINK IS GREAT..
