Breast Leaking Milk 4 - 5DPO NORMAL?

June 26, 2008

Okay.. I had something weird happen today. I was checking to see if my nipples hurt (LOL) and I squeezed my breast a little and a white substance (like milk) came out. My daughter is two years old and I had to stop breast feeding at 6 months because my milk dried up. I haven't had this happen in a year and a half?

Is this a good sign or should I just chalk it up to good ol progesterone?

Obviously I never squeeze my boobs/nipples when not TTC so I don't know if my breast have always done this post-ovulation / pre-AF or not... but it sure was strange.

Also.. I had a lot of electric/sharp feeling pains in my breasts today. My breast typically don't ever hurt.. every once in a while a day or two before AF but she isn't supposed to show until July 4th/5th..

IDEAS?

This is not due to progesterone. Infact its due to prolactin harmones which inhibits ovulation and not a good thing during TTC. U need to see a Dr to check your prolactin levels if you dont get preggo after trying. Breasts hurting has nothing to do with pregnancy 4 DPO. Infact the pregnancy harmone only secretes after 6-7 dpo.

Well I'm not sure what DPO I am in. I could be Anywhere from 4 - 7 DPO. Is it bad if I am 6 - 7 DPO... would it be normal then?

I think I've already ovulated.. I guess I'm confused.

So.. just to make sure we are on the same page. If I don't get pregnant this go around.. I should have my prolactin checked?

I had the same thing happen--took off my bra one day and had wet spots. Turned out I had a tumor on my pituitary gland that was over-producing prolactin. I have never been pregnant, though, so yours may be due to something else. My tumor was pretty small and I was able to decrease it even more with meds--no big deal. Hope this helps!

I had my prolactin levels checked and they were fine. My doctor didn't seem to think it was anything to worry about.

hi i am just curious what happened to you after this. I have been TTC for 1 1/2 years and I have the same problem (except my child is almost 4)the doctor put me on medication but it is two months in and still not stoping to lactate.

Michal, I have a diagnosed high-prolactin problem that is now well controlled with Cabergoline (the other common drug for high prolactin is Bromocriptine). I stopped BF 1 1/2 years ago and I still can express milk.

My prolactin level, at last check was around 8 (within normal range). I asked Dr. Q and my OB about this and they all said that if my periods are regular (they are) and my levels are normal (they are), then there is little concern about the milk.

I had my prolactin levels checked and they were fine. I did end up getting pregnant (I'm currently 12 weeks along) and I still have this issue. So apparently not all women with leaking boobs have high prolactin levels. Hope you figure it out!
