breast feeding after a breast reduction
July 29, 2008
I had a breast reduction 10 years ago (the kind where they had to remove the nipple and place it back on again). Anyway, I have mixed feelings about breast feeding because I heard it can be tremendously painful to try especially if everything was not "connected" back after my operation. Any insight on this or how long I should consider trying would be greatly appreciated as well as any possible risks to trying.
I was actually able to go off my meds at about 5 weeks into my pregnancy as I had started to ween off before I started my first round of clomid (in which I conceived). Thankfully, I have had an easy pregnancy (thus far--I"m at 29 weeks already!) and have been fairly relaxed. I think my other concern about breast feeding is if I will need to go back on my meds I know that my medication was carried into the breast milk and in which case I won't be breast feeding. I just spoke to my surgeon who said there is only a 50/50 chance of me being able to breast feed and I am pretty anxious about trying--and my husband seems to think I should try and this has become an issue of contention...I haven't even given birth yet and I feel like a 'bad mother' for not wanting to breast feed.
there are a few posts on here about breastfeeding or not. I didnt do it with either of my kids and i connected so well with them and DH was able to bond really well with them as well cuz he was able to feed them too. Plus, the whole feeding burdon was not on me, he could help wiht the night feedings since i was badk at work 2 weeks later.
The thought of breastfeedin my son grossed me out to be honest but that was me.
I loved bottle feeding and wouldnt do it any other way personally and my kids were not and are not "sick" children. They have great immune systems and arent vaccinated.
Im glad you are fine off the meds, good for you!!! I have never had to take meds until the TTC shit! Hope i can go off when/if i get preggo again too!!!

She chose not to breastfeed cuz she was afraid that it wasnt "real" milk - LOL.
If you are un-comfy about it then go with bottles or be open to both and if the breastfeeding is painful then go to bottles. There are great nutritous formulas out there so no worries :)
