can overweight be a problem of getting pregnant

September 18, 2007

Hi Chellie,

First of all, you should be evaluated by a doc to make sure there are no breast lumps/masses. Once that's determined, you may want a prolactin level checked, as this can cause some of your problems of getting pregnant and can cause some breast discharge, although usually milky.

Being overweight can cause PCOS and problems with pregnancy, and would suggest you search this site for PCOS to learn more about this syndrome

Dr. Q,

I just noticed that Maria has a breast discharge, I've noticed that at times it is white or light yellow. Is this normal? We are in the 2 week waiting period to find out if she is pregnant. We will find out on Friday.

Breast discharge can be attributed to many things...If undergoing IVF, then the hyperestrogenic state can create a little white discharge which can be normal. A prolactin level can be checked for all issues of breast discharge. Regardless, a self-breast exam is always warranted, and if any "suspicious" lump is palpated, it should be brought to your doc's attention. Good Luck Maria and Ernie....We're all Cheering for you...

Last month, when my breasts were sore and swollen, I had some milky discharge. It stopped after my period. My prolactin levels had recently been checked and were normal, so I think mine might have been a minor glitch, or I was very briefly pregnant. I will never know.

Hi Weyr,

Breast Milky Discharge is of concern if it's a nuisance or it stops your periods from occuring...and if this is the case, we know of labs that don't "correctly" detect the correct amount of functional and active prolactin in the body...If this is the case, talk to an RE about it...Otherwise, many people do get a sporadic discharge (without any lumps noted by an Ob/Gyn or yourself) and/or breast tenderness/redness that can be clinically insignificant.

I had breast discharge before I was even sexual active. The drs tested me and everything came back normal. They could not explain the discharge at all and it was like a yellowish color. Hasnt happened since. Kind of odd to me, still dont know what it was. Dr. Q do you have any idea of what caused it?

Some women do get breast discharge from many different reasons, and so long as it's not a cancerous process, too much milk from high Prolactin or pus discharge, many different processes can create these...
