body basal temperature

October 02, 2008

HIya, I was wondering if you could help me with Body basal temperature. Myself and my husband are trying to conceive and this cycle I have been charting my temperature, howvever there hasnt been much variation in the readings. I have done it the same time each morning orally since first day of period.(8th sept 2008) I live in Australia so my readings are in degrees. on the first day it was 35.8 degrees, then 4 days later went up to 36.2 from the 11th sept to 28th sept, but on 29th and 30th was up to 36.4 now back down to 36.2 degrees last two days.So it never rose after 'ovulation' even though the strip said I was. LH surge. Due for Period in next couple day. Is it normal to not variate much in the month? my LH surge was around 20th, 21st and 22nd sept. I have had alot of cramps since and today 2nd lh surge was a faint line so nothing. How do I know I have ovulated, or could the mild cramps since 21st sept then be a problem down there? Im 24 years old and this is the first time we are TTc and I am not sure who to ask for advice. I hope you can help me or recommend a website for advice. Thankyou so much :)

The basal body temperature is really a nonspecific test. It is only a sign that your progesterone level may be elevated after ovulation. Most specialist do not even use this test. I would have a blood test done on day 21 or seven days after your ovulation to see what your progesterone level is. However, if you are having regular menstrual periods then you are ovulating, but you may not be getting good progesterone levels following ovulation. This can be supplemented with vaginal progesterone... Wish you the best of luck!!!
