Yes, first line drugs for Hypertension in pregnancy is aldomet and labetolol (beta-blockers), and is one of the safer meds to take. That is a pretty high bp, and if you're young, there may be other causes that may contribute to this bp, and would suggest rechecking with your gp. Also, Check with your Ob/Gyn to seen where she would like to see your bp prior to conceiving...

Good luck, and keep us posted..

Are you stressed Jen? I'm only asking because I normally have relatively low blood pressure, but about a year and a half ago my husband and I bought a house, and my body went to hell in a handbasket. I was nauseated all the time, I'd wake up with stomach cramps, I could hear my heart beating in my ears, and I went to the doctor to see what was up and my blood pressure was very similar to yours. Somehow I learned to calm down and my blood pressure returned to normal...but stress is what did it to me. And, the truth is, I didn't even know I was stressed. I just thought I was having all of these stomach problems (which stressed me out even more). It wasn't until my doctor pointed out that all of it started when we bought a house that I was able to realize what was going on and take control of the situation.

All is normal with my body now...except I still can't drink coffee from the experience. It's amazing how much damage stress can do.

Hi Jen, Yes AliKK is right. One day I was so nauseated and terribly dizzy and I thot i was preggo and then I got my BP checked 137/100 with a HR of 140. Reason : Stressing too much abt TTC and there was a horrible person stressing me out at my work place and my 18 hr high stress work schedule. I quit my job as soon as I realised what was going and calmed down and my BP returned back to normal. The stress of TTC is really really bad...Its so hard, but just calm down, u may never know u are stressed, but subconsciously you are. They got my kidney checked and all the things and everything was normal. I started doing the Hot yoga and it helped me calm down a whole lot. Its so hard to not think abt TTC, but just weigh the scales..wanna stress abt it and get a High BP and make a risky pregnancy or relax a little bit and have a normal one even if it took time. And Oh yeah...No caffiene what so ever. It increases ur heart rate so much!!!

Does thyroid cause high blood pressure??? If so, have that checked. I also had high blood pressure a year and a half ago and had a full blood work up. Everything came back fine and I ended up going in for a blood pressure check every 4 months and it came down every time. Now I actually have low blood pressure. GO figure :)
