Im sure the baby is a-ok, the mom is usually the one who gets the crap while the baby is nice and cozy in the uterus :)
Blacking out during GTT
February 25, 2008
Dr Q, I had my 3 hr GTT today and everything was ok the 1st one hr after I took the 100 g of Dextrose.
After about 1.5 hrs, I started getting very nauses and restless and as I was telling this to the lab tech, I started blacking out and lost my footing though I didnt faint per se or fall down. Then they made me lie down on the bed for sometime and I was ok in 15 mins.
My question will this type of incident hurt the baby?
Is this because the sugar level increased a lot or because too much insulin lowered my sugar levels?
Any advise appreciated. Thanks as always

You piqued my interest, so I looked around online, and it looks like passing/blacking out isn't that unusual of an event...particularly if you fasted and particularly with the 3hour test, where they give you a higher dose.
Granted, I don't know what this means in regard to how your body is dealing with glucose, but, if women can pass/blackout during the test (and they do), I wouldn't think doing so would put the baby at risk, or doctors wouldn't do it.
Also, I know lab techs aren't doctors, but, if it was something dangerous, I'm sure they'd have a procedure down that would alert your doctor to the event.

Thanks ladies and Dr Q. I feel much better though not completely alright. Dr Q always makes us feel assured. I would have gone crazy without this site with these experiences. I cant wait to talk to my dad later tonight who is diabetic and big time into all this and how this all works, he told me not to go alone as this might happen, and I was so arrogant that I told him nothing can happen to me :( Ladies, preggo or not, when u get a GTT done, please have someone alongside you always.
hope, i had this test done with my second son due to having alot of A/fluid and big baby, it was thought i had pregnancy diabities but turned out as nothing just a porky baby n lots of water..lol i looked up it for you to try and help hhttp://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/diabetes_in_pregnancy.htmleres the link , lots of love xxx
Thanks claire, that was informative exactly what Im tested for. I dont think I have gest diabetes coz they did a 1 hr Glucose Challenge test done in the 16th week and it was a super normal. But since I am having recurring YI and ++++ sugar in the urine, they want to do this 3 hr test to make sure everything is ok.
I love chubby babies..u dun hafta wait for 2-3 months to see them that way, they are there right from day 1 :)
