Bedrest

August 03, 2008

I am 31 weeks pregnant and for the most part completely misserable. I live in Omaha NE where the weather is inbetween 80-100% + extreamly high humidity. I have fibromyalsia (can't spell) but can't take the Lyrica I'm supossed to because it's not good for the baby. My feet, face, and hands are always swollen and I know this is common but some days it's to the point where my feet are numb and/or tingle. Is there a way to "ask" to be put on bedrest or cut back on working? It's not that I just want to sit around and be lazy but I am starting to feel sick to my stomach and dizzy from the heat. I just don't know how to bring this up to my doctor...

YES def ask I would let them know exactly what you are feeling and they should not have a problem taking you out of work and puting you on bed rest especially if you have other conditions that is affecting your pregnancy..I would ask ASAP

You can always have your doc review your medical records in the process

Dr. Q What do you mean by review my medical records? I have fibromyalsia which is REALLY effecting my back. My Dr. gave me some pain meds but I can't take them at work cause of the side effects and she doesn't want me taking them every night so I don't know what to do. Between the swelling and back pain sometimes it takes me an hour just to get out of bed...

I think you can apply for the FMLA with ur Dr's request note.

FMLA just secures your job while you are out on maternity leave. I actually just switched jobs and therefore do not qualify for FMLA. You have to be with the company for at least a year. I had to apply for a personal leave and it was of course granted, however this is again AFTER the baby is born. I am looking for relief now. :0(

Can't you get approved for disability benefits? You should not lose your job for that I don't think, since you would have official documentation from your doc.

I don't believe you can lose your job for problems you're having as a result of being pregnant...that's descrimination, isn't it?

I believe Dr. Q meant that your doc can review your medical records if you remind him/her that you are having pain as a result of the fibromyalsia and then possibly write you a note excusing you from work.

Let me tell you about my situation..

since i was needing appt to see the fertility specialist and when i got pregnant i was out for 2 mths due to severe morning sickness i exhausted all 12 weeks of my FMLA time..so i do not have any as of right now..what my company does have is Short term diability.. i get 6 mths of that in a rolling 90 day period.. so that is what i am using right now..I hav eno job protection as of right now for the FMLA is concerneso my manager can fill my position if she would like to..but due to the disability laws she can not fire me i will not loose my job because i am out on disablility..the company has to keep paying me my diability benefits and all the benefits that i had before i went out on leave..so here is theit policy..i will be on short term disability where they pay me 80 percent of my pay and i keep full benefits until i deliver..the company offers maternity leave anyway so i will get that regardless of if i exhaust my short term diablility or not..so i will get that for 8 weeks and then if my manager decides to fill my position i will have another 30 days to find another job within the company..if i do not find a hob within the company then they will pay me a 2 mth severance package in return for my resignation so that i can come back and work for them if i would like..but my manager has decided to hold my position for me..but with this said..because of the disability laws they can't just fire you they have to have some type of plan in place where you will still get your benefits from the company now once you exhaust your short term diability benefits then they can fire you because you would have to come back to work and if you can't then you would have to resign...at least those are the disability laws in VA...i hope that this helps..research the disability laws for your state and compare them to your job and speak to someone in HR so you can see what is available to you i know that i had to be working for my job for 90 days before anyone can get disability through the job...

But they can fire you if you do not qualify for diability under your states laws or if you have exhausted your benefits according to your job policy and your state diability laws...

August 07, 2008

My concern isn't with getting fired. I too have short term disibility. I'm just wondering if my Dr. will let me cut back on work. But I just called because my back pain is so severe that turning on the shower this morning put me in tears and all they want to do is put me in physical therapy. Been there done that, it isn't going to give me relief NOW and doesn't help at all with my work situation. Ugh I am soooooo angry right now. AND IN PAIN!
