BBT charting question - Interpretation please?

Woman_8
Ireland

July 20, 2007

I am using fertilityfriend.com to track my bbts. Based on my chart for this cycle, my bbt for seven days was under 97.1. In the last three days, my temperature has been 97.5, then 97.39, and again 97.39. I tend to ovulate really early in my cycle (cd 8 or 9)...and I have a short cycle (21 - 23 days). I also had eggwhite-like cm for two days before my temperature rise.

So, my question is--my temp has been up for 3 days--why isn't fertility friend detecting ovulation? If I were interpreting the charts on my own, wouldn't I draw a coverline at 97.1 and consider the last three high temps my rise post ovulation?

You are at a complete advantage over most people in the fact that you can detect that eggwhite-like watery mucus (a great ovulatory predictor that's free!) This is much better in actually than measuring your temperature which by definition, has to be done as soon as your eyes open in the morning, thermometer right in hand and instantly into mouth...quite much to be honest and not that accurate as you can see since one has to be "on the ball" to get it right, and in your particular case, but maybe not others, 97.1 would seem to be where your rise turns positive. However, once your temperature rises, the egg is gone and can't be fertilized any more, so unless you just want to know that you simply ovulated, that's the only utility of the BBT. So BBTs are not good ways to predict when to have intercourse to get pregnant.

In your case, however, if you have intercourse when you have the watery discharge, you will have sperm right there and in time waiting for that egg to ovulate...the perfect scenario. This same scenario is also caught with ovulatory predictor kits so that when that turns positive, have intercourse and the sperm will be there waiting for that egg. You have to remember that sperm lives inside the uterus and tubes for 2-3 days (that's correct!), while once the egg is ovulated, it only has a few hours for it to be fertilized...that's why you'd always want the sperm there waiting for the egg, and preferably not the other way around.
