Bad Post Coital, Bacteria, leading to IUI and stressing (again)

April 12, 2008

Ladies and Dr.,

I have been on clomid and responding nicely. This is my 2nd round and I had a post coital. The nurse said that I have some sort of bacterial infection. He said I have too much of the good bacteria and my chances of preg this month are slim to non because the sperm cannot swim. He said my only choice is to take antibiotic and do an IUI next month. Is there really no chance of preg this month? Could this have been a cause of earlier miscarriages? and Is an IUI really necessary after the antibiotic?? Thank you in advance.

Hi Jessica,

Depends on the antibiotic, but very, very unlikely that an IUI would be done simply on the basis of a bacterial infection...sperm are able to swim through most things simply due to the semen that protects them in the vagina...there is a chance of pregnancy assuming everything else is normal and this is not related to miscarriages...
