This question depends on a number of factors, but for the most part, anyone who is under 35 y/o and hasn't been able to conceive a child with unprotected intercourse in a year should visit an Ob/Gyn or an RE for further evaluation. If you are 35 and above, you should wait no longer than 6 months. Sometimes though, say you're 40 y/o, it may be wise to visit a specialist immediately just so that the speciaist can check to make sure everything is normal, and if it is, you can confidently try on your own for a few months. If not, you may need immediate treatment.
