Are missed miscar. common? How soon can I TTC again?
July 23, 2008
I have not posted in a while. I found out Monday morn' at a routine 10 week prenata appt. that my baby had died 2 weeks before at 8 weeks. I had a D and C yesterday. I had no symptoms at all. No cramping or spotting. I saw the baby at 5 weeks heartbeat and all. That was my first ever miscarriage and D and C. This has been a horrible experience. Is something like this common? I thought back and over the weekend I commented to my husband that usually I am bigger than this by now. It crossed my mind but I dismissed the thoughts of anything being wrong after all no spoting or cramping. So my TTC journey begins again. My RE said 2 months but why so long?

First, I want to say I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine how you must feel. God Bless!
I am just curious, as I was reading your post you said you told your husband that you were usually bigger than what you were this time. Did you still have pregnancy symptoms such as morning sickness or anything else? The reason I am asking is because I just told my husband the same thing. I will be 10 weeks on Friday and I am not as big as I was with my others. So when I read this it made me kind of worry.
Hope you are able to concieve right away and sending prayers your way.

I will tell you what I noticed. My common symptoms are 1) Hunger if I don't eat every 3 or 4 hours I get ill that stopped I would forget I didn't eat. 2) Sleepiness that went away staying up till midnight again 3) stomach not as big as it was with my others. 4) breasts not as tender
Honestly in my gut I felt like something was wrong BUT because I did not cramp or spot I told myself it was my imagination. It started close to my 9th week. I thought I was being paranoid and I said to myself maybe it is going easy because my body has done this before. I was wrong. I don't want you to worry but I never imagined something like this woud happen to me. I can say if you feel it in your gut pay attention to it. Call your Doctor and ask to come in worry won't help but the knowing will.

Thanks so much for your response. I still have the morning sickness, but I was concerned because I wasn't as big as with my others also. It's wierd, I had just told my husband the same thing. I also haven't gained much weight if any. Had you gained any weight or heard the heartbeat with the doppler? We heard the heartbeat at 7 weeks 6 days, which was early.
I will keep you in my prayers. Here's some baby Dust!

Thanks for the baby dust and prayers! I never heard the baby on doppler. I did see the baby on u/s at 5 weeks 4 days. It was beautiful. When I went Monday he put the wand in and I could see immediately something was wrong. I asked why is he so small? where is the heart beat flicker? He didn't say anything. Then he said the baby had passed away and it was measuring 8 weeks 2 days. I would not go on weight gain alone. However, I noticed I had lost a pound but that is because my desire to constantly eat had stopped. My breasts were also not as big. I just kept thinking well no spotting no cramps = no problems. I have never heard of a missed miscarr.
tammie - i went thru something similar just a few weeks ago myself. I was at 8 weeks and the baby stopped growing and my body never m/c on its own so instead of the D&C i chose to have pills inserted into my cervix to force a m/c. It was not fun at all, i am 33 and have been TTC for over a year, this is my 2nd m/c in the last year for no known reason. We have gone thru IUI's, fertility injections and 2 rounds of IVF so far.
I posted question a few weeks ago called "whats the difference" between a missed m/c, a chemical and a regualr old m/c.
THere is a ton of good info onthe post.
Take care.
PS, you can start TTC again this next cycle, whenever you ovualate.
You will take longer to ovulate cuz your follies wont start growing til after your levels are at -0- and that could take some time.
Usually about 6-8 weeks before you get yoru next period after a m/c.

Thanks Chelsha...by any chance do you have pcos? Well my RE said 2 months so then that would be 6 to 8 weeks. I feel in my heart my pcos had something to do with it. I came home and could only east soup so I am still eating soup. I am 1 pound under my pre-pregnancy weight. I am going to try to drop 20. Hopefully this will make it easier to get pregnant and hold on to my little one next time.
the docs thought long long ago that i did have PCOS since my periods were so out of wack. I have 2 kids so they kinda went back and forth with it. I dont think that 15 years ago they had tests to tell you if you did or not for sure. I went on b/c pills to "regulate" me and it worked. I should have only stayed on them for a year or so cuz after 8 years they really screwed me up and i had to go off cuz they were putting my body at age 32 into fake menopose. YIKES!
Are you overweight? Im loosing weight too, i have put on over 20 pounds in the last year with the fertility injections and stress eating so im gonna try to drop that b4 getting preggo again but who knows.
Do you have a regular cycle - like every 28 or 31 days each month? If not that is a huge indicator to PCOS. instead of ovulating your follie turns to a cyst i think. You dont have a regular cycle and some/most dont get periods for months.

Oh yes I have pcos. You know all my life my cycles have been off even when I was skinny 116 or so. I currently weigh 217(this is an all time high never in my life) before I started ttc I weighed like 195 all the clomid and shots I took chunked me up even more. So I am going on a low calorie/low gi until october then I will try again. I have already started. Knowing me and how I loose that might put me in the high 180's/low 190's. I have always exercised. So I am going to pick up the intensity of my work outs. I just think my body is not having it and this is what is causing all the problems.
Tammie- are you on metformin?? This may help prevent m/c and help you lose weight before you are pregs.
I (probably) have PCOS (my hormones tend to be normal, but i have never had a regular cycle and i get constant cysts). My doc has me on metformin. I have always been thin (5'6" and 125), but the metformin made me drop about 4 lbs, which is a lot for me doing nothing different! :)

I'm so sorry. I lost my baby much later - after the "safe" period - but there were NO SIGNS. Don't ever think that you could know. Sometimes there is no way to know without the u/s.
According to what my OB told me, sometimes the placenta will continue to grow and pump out the pregnancy hormones for a little while after the baby has died. This is why you may still have symptoms.
I have many friends and relatives who have had m/c and some had no hint that something had gone wrong. And, even if symptoms disappear you may still have a healthy baby. There is no rhyme or reason to the symptoms from everything I have heard.

He said two months so I had my D and C on July 22 so September 22 would be 8 weeks later. So that is why I am saying October. I was feeling like trying in August a few days ago because I just felt so darn bad I wasn't thinking straight. BUT now that I am thinking more clear .....it just makes sense to give my body a little time to heal and drop some weight. I will be out of the 200's and if I really get with it maybe 180's which would be much much better for me and the next baby. I am not big on patience but I could not take if I had another miscarriage. Especially if I don't follow my RE's instructions and something went wrong I would beat myself up.
My dr told me I can try after 1 normal period after a D&C for a missed miscarriage at 13w. I got my period after 5 weeks but that cycle was so messed up anyway and i had a lot of mid-cycle spotting, that i might as well have waited 2 cycles. Good luck hon and i'm really sorry for your loss. ((HUGs))
Thank you oblivious. I need luck, baby dust, and all that. That miscarriage and D n C were really two very horrible experiences. The thing about a silent miscarriage is you don't even have a clue something is about to happen. You just get the shock of your life. No spotting for you to say oh something is wrong or any kind of warning. I just ordered two pairs of sale pants from GAP maternity....thats okay I am keeping um when they arrive because I will need them before 2008 is up!
