Anyone have success with Natural IUI?
June 26, 2008
Hi all,
Next month, my husband and I will try natural IUI, meaning I won't take any meds to induce ovulation. We're doing this for two reasons:
1. I ovulate on my own each month;
2. We want to see how much husband's sperm responds to washing.
I'm wondering about my chances. My RE says it's around 10-12%, which is better than our chances trying naturally at home.
Have any of you had gotten pregnant doing natural IUI?
I'm anxious to hear some success stories before I begin to cycle!
Thanks so much.

Hey Christine, wondering about your results from natural IUI. I have my 1st appt. on the 4th, for ultrasound and consultation. I am wondering what to expect. If we do IUI this cycle it will be with no meds(as I am already cd4 today) so we missed that window, plus I ovulate on my own as well (no testing, just + OPKS) So any information you would like to share about your journey would be appreciated!!!
Hi ladies--
Yep, Chels is right: I'm going to take a hpt in the morning and see what happens. We did another natural IUI this month, and my husband's sperm values did improve. This time, they inseminated me with 2.3M motile sperm post-wash(61% motility), versus my first IUI which was only 300,000 post-wash and 25% motility.
My RE was encouraged by the improvement, though the count is still low. However, he did say that he has seen pregnancies with lower counts than 2.3 million, so I'm holding out *some* hope.
I also ovulate on my own (like clockwork, in fact), so no meds were really necessary. The only reason we're doing IUI is because of male factor. If this IUI doesn't work, RE wants us to try one more, to see if sperm continues to improve, then we're likely looking at ICSI in the fall.
I hope you're both well, and I hope I read about your BFPs SOON!!!!
I'll post tomorrow morning after my test. :)

Hi Christine,
I will be doing natural IUI as well. Maybe we could be natural IUI cycle buddies ;) When do you go in for the insemination? I will be going in sometime around September 2-4. I'm like you in that I know that I ovulate too. My serum progesterone tests have been around 21-23.5, so my OB says those are good levels. I typically O between CD14-17. My DH and I have been TTC for almost a year. I don't know if we're just off on our BDing and Oing, so the IUI seems the best way to get it all timed just right. My RE will do an ultrasound to see how my follies are doing regardless if I get a positive OPK. If I get a good sized follie then I'll do the IUI.
Goodluck and keep us posted. Baby dust to all you ladies.

Hi LC -- I'd love to be IUI buddies! I had my second IUI last Wed. 8/20, so I'm currently in the two week wait. I'm planning to test either tomorrow or Sunday morning, so I'll keep you posted on what happens.
The natural IUI is a piece of cake, really. Has your husband been tested? Maybe you have a male factor going on, which may be why you didn't get pregnant. We had the same problem: trying and trying to time things to no avail. Then my husband got tested and everything started making sense.
Anyway, I'll look out for your posts. I wish you luck, and keep your fingers (and toes!) crossed for me. :)

Hey Jenstar -- not yet, I decided to put it off until tomorrow (Sunday) morning. I'm just not feeling optimistic. :( My boobs are fairly sore at this point, but that has happened to be so many times before AF arrives. Sigh -- it's just so tiring.
Thanks for checking up on me. I'll be sure to post as soon as I test. Please keep your fingers crossed for me...
