am i spoiling my baby?

I do not see anything wrong with holding her while she is napping. That being said she will begin to think that someone is suppose to hold her all the time.

I say do what you feel is right. This time goes by so fast...enjoy every moment. I held my son a lot and he was never a needy baby.

All studies have shown that you cannot spoil an infant by over holding them until they are around 6 months of age and then you will need to make sure the baby can "self soothe". So cuddle her up now cause gosh, once she becomes a teen she may never wanna cuddle. lmao!

You may be setting yourself up for trouble is she gets to the point that she can't fall asleep without being held. After 3 months or so, it's time to start getting babies into habits that they will stick with, like falling asleep on their own. You need to be able to lay her down while she's awake and let her fall asleep on her own.

However, there's no such thing as spoiling a baby under three months old, in my opinion.

I don't think that you are spoiling your baby.I have also questioned myself about this and have read what sarah said above.I carry my baby when she naps as well, but sometimes I have to put her down to play with my 4year old.Time does fly by really fast so enjoy it while you can.

Oliver hun... Im not sure which way to go on this. I loved holding my children ALL the time but then they got VERY spoiled after a bit of doing it.

They didnt want to slewp w/o someone holding them. Also it is good to let her cry for a few mins. It doesnt mean that ur a bad mom but running to her all the time she will get to know that as soon as she cries u will come but I understand how u feel about this.

I think it is up to u hun. U need to do what is right for u and Olivia. She is ur baby so if u spoil her then that is something that u will have to deal with when she gets alittl bigger.. hehe!

I just want to add that Cameron is now 6 months old and at his last feeding of the night, which is now 7:30pm, I feed him while rocking him and he either falls asleep to the bottle or after I put in his pacifier and rock him for maybe 5 min then he is asleep and I carry him up to bed. I keep the tv on and dim our living room lights. He sleeps with a box fan in his room facing the wall on medium for some white noise and he is an excellent sleeper. Cameron does not sleep with me, but on the weekends I do go in and get him when he wakes around 6am and put him in with me for some cuddle time of about an hour or so before we get up to start our day.

When your baby is a newborn they need to feel connected to you and they need to feel secure, you need to form that bond and trust for your baby. Letting a baby cry for too long can affect her later in life and there are many studies that you can read that back this up. My pediatrician has told me that I cannot spoil Cameron by over holding him but that when he is around 6 months old it will be important to have an established bed time routine and also that he have the ability to self soothe himself or be able to entertain himself alone for a period of 15 minutes before fussing. He goes way over the 15 min by the way :)

All babies are different, some sleep through the night before others, some require more feedings than others, some need to be held more often than others. You know your baby best.

Oliver I don't know about this one..LOL..I got two little girls over here and I picked them up each time that they cried and now i can not lay them in the crib for 5 second withen they are awake like if i am cleaning their room or something or getting stuff together to get them dressed..they will start crying..i either have to pick them up or sit them in their seats..and even when i sit them in their seats they swirm around because they want me to come and get them..so i have created two little ladies that do nothing but wine and cry until i come and get them and they are only 6 weeks..LOL..so i am not sure about this..don;t know if it is natural or if i have spoiled them..who knows but i know it is someting..

Hi sweetie!!!! Here's my take on this.........I've heard the same thing about not being able to spoil them until at leat 6 months, but I do feel they can start to rely in you a little earlier than that. But at only a week or two....oh no....hold them and cuddle them!!! They need that attachment. Think about how scary the world is to them. They used to be all inside and confy and then all of the sudden they were forced into this world are so scared. Caden was always a pretty good sleeper and I always put him down when it was time to sleep...even a swing or vibrating seat. So don't worry about it, but it is a good habit to get into to let them be by themselves too. I know it is hard, b/c you can't get enough of them, but they need some down time too! I'm sure Olivia isn't spoiled yet! Hugs!

Oliver-I agree you cannot "spoil" a baby & Olivia is like 5 days old! OMG!!- but yes I agreee with Summer- I held Jacob every hour after he was born I could not put him down, poor DH was like can I hold him! I loved looking at him, watching him sleep, breath- It was like I was "drinking" it all in.. but after about 4 weeks I started putting him down in his crib for naps- I had to get things done.. I would always go to comfort him when he cried.. but I picked and choose when to pick him up- I had to determine did he need me or just a soothing hand to assure him all was ok.. to this day- Jacob (3yrs) is independent, sleeps great and knows he is very much loved :)
