Acupuncture--Trying it during my TTC journey

July 06, 2008

Hello,

I know many of us consider using acupuncture to assist us and wonder if it can really help. Just wanted to share with everyone that I started acupuncture when my Dr. took me off Follistim for a cycle due to 3 cysts from the previous cycle. It is still a little early to determine all the effects of the acupuncture for me.. but so far I can say that the cysts were gone by my regular expected AF time and I really do think that it has helped with my PMS and the effects of my Follistim injections. Last cycle of Follistim I had lots and lots of cramps and bloating. This cycle I really don't feel any cramps at all and the bloating is not bad at all. My DH agrees that I am much calmer and not so "obsessed" with all this TTC stuff. I will keep you posted on any other things I notice along the way.

WOW! Jen, are they making you take those herbs? I did acupuncture for a while and loved it. Then I stopped because it got so expensive. I was wondering if they can do it without making you take the herbal supplements since I am taking meds for my thyroid and dont want it to interact...Let me know! :) this is great news! :)

Hi there,

They did give me some herbs and as soon as I started the meds/injections I stopped taking the herbs. My fertility dr. told me not to take other things when I was on my injections so I'm using her to explain why I don't want them. It really does get very expensive but I'm pretty sure it is really helping things along--I hope it does!! :O)

Jen, I did acupuncture during my IVF cycle. Before stims I started a special blend of herbs that were so nasty, lol. He had me stop the day I started stims though.

I am currently doing acupuncture also. This Sat will be my second visit, so its really to early to tell. It is very relaxing.

I have been doing acupuncture as well, but with no herbs. It is my 3rd cycle doing it and I have noticed subtle changes - a little more relaxed, better sleep at night (not waking up in the night), I also think that it has help with cm (more of it). Otherwise - nothing that stands out greatly. When i first met with my acupuncturist she said that it would probably take me 3-4 months to get a positive cycle - that being that there is also nothing wrong with me physically. Next, i found out that i had a cyst last cycle and high levels of prolactin. I have since then been tested and the cyst has shrunk and I am waiting for my proclactin results. It is getting a bit expensive with the acupuncture - but I am going to stick with it for at least a couple more months.

My DH went for a session of acupuncture the day before IUI and his sperm count went up really high- 60 million from 27 million so that definitely improved things with him. Hopefully in 2 weeks I will be able to report that it did contribute to helping me get a BFP!! :O)

Hi there, I started acupuncture shortly before my HSG test on June 27th and have been going every week. I love it and it has relaxed me too! I found that I had less anxiety about even having the HSG test done! So strange for me because I normally wouldn't be able to sleep the night before a test like that! Here is a question, has anyone experienced messed up cycles from acupuncture? I should have had a 25 day cycle but now I am on day 33 and I am too chicken to do a test because I am afraid of a BFN!

Becky, Acupuncture didn't change my last cycle, did you test. Maybe you are preggo!!!! BABY DUST!!!!

July 21, 2008

Well, AF came yesterday.....and I wasted a test on Saturday! I should have just waited a bit longer. Acupuncture has definitely helped with my cramps. I have barely had to take Advil this month which is strange for me!

July 21, 2008

Becky, wish it would have helped get you a BFP!!! Hopefully it will just take one more month are you still going to continue the acupuncture?

July 21, 2008

Yes, I am going to keep going for another month I think or depending on whether or not insurance covers some of it! It is kind of pricey but I already feel the results so it is worth it to me. My cramps are usually horrendous!
