ACUNPUNTURE VISIT BY CARYN

January 04, 2008

So I want to share my experience with my acupuncture. Now remember, this is not the same points of view as traditional medecine as we know it..but none the less I found it very interesting.

When I first arrived in a clean and warm office, I was greeted by Allie, my acupuncturist. She had me fill out an extensive history and why I was coming to see her today...due to my infertility, Interestingly, I filled out any prior surgery part, and I put down my C-Section from my last pregnancy in 2005. After I filled out everything, we met in her office and talked about it. After going over various issues I have, some not related to infertility, she asked to look at my tongue..weird huh, but I guess your tongue tells her alot..she also commented on my c-section and in her beliefs the scar and incision creates and "inmblance" between the top and the bottom of the body, like I was cut in half and she also noted that this particular spot for insicion is vital for conception and like any surgery in that area, may make conception difficult, possible a source of my issue...also she noted I may have a possible issues with my blood flow..another important thing in acupuncture, keeping the body in balance, the blood must flow..

ok, so after all this we went into the room..she wanted to put needles on/around my scar and treat that area first, thrying to get the body to reconnect..I was scared, but said OK! It did not hurt at all, maybe a small pinch here and there, but really nothing..then she put some herbs along my scar, not on it directly, but held it above it..it was very warm, relaxing...after that I had needles in my ankles, and wrists, and on my back..after it was all done (2hours) I felt relaxed and interested to go back so I could learn more...I am scheduled to ovulate Jan 9-12 so I am seeing her WED. in hopes I can open up those ovaries!! It was really interesting, a bit expensive, but since I am not going the whole fertility route, I think this might be a good area to explore! I encourage thise who are interested in this to try it out. I only have to go once a week, and we are gonig to try it for 6 weeks!

Thank you soo much for sharing and sounds like it would be something I would explore if this cycle doesnt work.

Im praying that this works for you sweetie and that we get those BFP soon.

Im scheduled to ovulate hopefully around Jan 7-15th sometime. That would be CD12-CD18.

We shall see. Every cycle of Clomid was different, and going back to the very first cycle and it being CD14, im praying that now being on 100mgs it happens on CD14 as well.

Love you and again thank you soo much for sharing!!

hi everyone! I hope 2008 is treating you well.

I just wanted to let you know that in the next few weeks we'll have great Accupuncturists joining FertilityTies so that everyone can ask them questions about ttc'ing and Accupuncture. The great news is that they solely focus on Accupuncture for Fertility.

I'll keep everyone posted!

January 04, 2008

awesome Caryn, I think it'll be great for everyone to have the perspective of someone like you and other users, who are currently going through the treatment, and also have the expert opinion from the Accupunturists, the same we have with Dr. Q, but focused on Accupuncture

January 04, 2008

thx so much for sharing, it makes me even more excited to see my accupunctuist. will you go see a herbologist i think they are called? My accupunturist had mentioned that they have a person there that they also reccomend that handles all the chinese herbs. Great post, thanks so much, glad you liked it!!

January 04, 2008

this is going to be AWESOME! I was so impressed by the visit, and alot of what she said makes sense according to my personal situation for me.. she also gave me this thing called a Moxa Pole, its something we used last night, so my "homework" is to light it and just let the heat from the pole do its thing, I am told to use it over my C Section incision.

January 04, 2008

Oh, I'm so happy you had a positive experience with it Caryn. Again, if nothing else, it's a very relaxing experience.

Tongues reveal so much. My mother took a class just to learn about this stuff, and the teacher examined their tongues. She could see from my mom's tongue immediately that she suffered from constipation. Since it was a class and there were no needles to be used, the teacher placed a small seed outside of her ear and taped it tightly on. As my mom said, "I couldn't drive home fast enough".

My accupuncturist could see from my tongue that I have dampness and heat. Also, my kidney pulse was weak, throwing my qi out of whack. It was explained to me that those with a weak kidney pulse can have trouble getting pregnant, and the kidney is tied so closely to your reproductive system. So, she strengthened the pulse. As I mentioned before, all of this led to a longer cycle for me (which was good, as I was having 20 day cycles before). I also had brighter blood and fewer clots in menstruation (also good, because dark blood and clots mean stagnant blood in the reproductive system).

Baby dust your way!

Oh, and angelfish, accupuncturists also help with male issues. When I first went I was asked if my husband had been tested, because, "It may be him who needs to be treated".

January 04, 2008

cool, i love stuff like that!!

January 04, 2008

Hey Caryn.

OMG!! I'm so proud of you for going. I have looked into acupuncture several times, but I always find an excuse not to book an appointment. But now in the new year, I decided to make a change & I have an appointment TODAY! with a Naturopathic doctor who specializes with fertility issues & has an acupuncturist at the clinic.

I, just like you, have an incision in my lower pelvic area from 2 surgeries I had...1 to remove my ruptured apendix & 2nd time (used same incision location) to remove an ovarian cyst that developed from scar tissue from the prior surgery. Now I have a hard bump in the area from the scar tissue & never felt smooth again. It's a lot of layers to cut through & the healing I'm sure would never heal the way it was before.

So I totally believe that is where my "unexplained" infertility stems from. Also, my blood flow had been aweful since my first surgery which results in frequent headaches & dizzy / light-headedness.

I can't wait to here about your second visit & I will be sure to post about my visit after today.

When fertility issues cannot be localized specifically, I feel it's better to take a holistic approach....it's obvious that our body is not working in unisin & we need balance to concieve.

Baby Dust to all & Lots of Love!!!

OMG Sunny, you def need to go! I have headaches too, dizzyness etc..she asked me if I knew how much blood I lost during the surgey, I said no,. but she said my symptoms were related to a blood condition..and also my tongue was very thin...I reslly was amazed and it makes sence to me..I am so excited I cannot wait to go back! Next app. is Wed

January 04, 2008

Thanks for the info Caryn and Dr.Q. I find this to be so interesting.

January 04, 2008

Alli, wow that is so encouraging..How long was it before you started seeing results?

January 04, 2008

Hey Hope,

I went for the first time in the middle of my cycle...right around ovulation. By the time AF arrived I noticed a change in my menstrual blood. So, really, it was immediate. Also, as I've explained in previous posts, I went to my accupuncturist for two months. It was great. I felt really relaxed, in general. Also, it oddly gave me an ability to mentally focus on my uterus...it's like the needles wake up certain areas, so you can really meditate on them.

ANYWAY, on that third month my accupuncturist had to travel. I substituted accupuncture with massage. This was also the month I went on Clomid for the first time...and I became pregnant. So, I think all of these factors played a role. The accupuncture got my system flowing an got my qi in order, allowing the Clomid to work perfectly...at least, that's how I like to think of it. :)
