about how quickly do uterine polyps return, after having been removed

November 03, 2009

I recently had a hysteroscopy and laparoscopy done, and they found uterine polyps.

The polyps were removed, but I found out I won't be able to medically TTC for quite a few months (money issues)....

How quickly do polyps return? (wanting to know my window of time for TTC.)

Thanks so much. :O)

There is no way to predict this. Often times polyps never return but there is certainly a percentage of women who habitually form polyps. The quickest a polyp could recurr would be a few months though because they are not fast growing. We do not know why some women develop polyps to begin with & have no answers as to why some women form them over & over again. You could always have an US done when you are ready to start TTC again to make sure your uterus looks empty again. Good Luck

Thanks Megan. :O)

I am sort of confused, though...my doc would do U/S monthly while I was doing the Clomid and Femara treatment cycles. They didn't notice the polyps at all (and when he did the hysteroscopy, they were filling my uterus) and was only a few weeks after my u/s check for lining and follies. I just don't get why they couldn't see them.

Any thoughts? I just don't want to have surgery again. At least want to get preggo before dealing with surgery like that again. :O)

Thank you again for your thoughts.

I am not sure why they didn't see them on those US's unless they just weren't clearly looking at your lining or the US is not that great of quality. US is not the best way to diagnose polyps for sure but you can almost always see them unless they are tiny. Depending on the quality of the US pic they may have just missed them because they weren't looking at your uterus as much & were concentrating more on your follicles. Hopefully they won't reform & you will be just fine!
