Caution must be used in making too much of hCG numbers. A normal pregnancy may have low hCG levels and result in a perfectly healthy baby. The results from an ultrasound after 5 - 6 weeks gestation are much more accurate than using hCG numbers.

# An hCG level of less than 5mIU/ml is considered negative for pregnancy, and anything above 25mIU/ml is considered positive for pregnancy.

thanks, Ashmcc but i really dont understand any of this here is my info maybe u cud help me understand thanks! my retreival was 11-18-08 it was a 3 day transfer 11-21-08 and i transfer 2 grade 1 (1 being perfect )embryos they both had 8 cells. so today i am 15 days past my retreival and my beta was today 12-03-08 and it was only 5.5 my doctor didnt even said i was pregnant she just said not to expect anything from this and that my next beta is 12-05-08 and maybe the number would decress and she also said i was gonna bleed heavy and to call her when i did so what do you think!

so i think im in the 4week cause my last period was 11-03-08

sounds like about 4 weeks. Keep your heart open and head up. Anything can happen. Look at recurrent. I mean docs are great but sometimes the body plays tricks that not even docs understand. I'm wishing you loads of Baby Dust and Sticky Glue!

Garcia, different labs have different levels of what they considered to be pregnant.

It would depend on the lab. I would call and ask the nurse in the morning. I hope your levels go up like they should. If this cycle does not work out, hopefully you can start another cycle ASAP.

Yes, normally it does. Truthfully, I would prepare myself for the worst and hope for the best in your situation. You have a lot of things going for you and IVF does not always end up with a viable pregnancy on the 1st try.

Anything less than 5 is considered negative, 5-25 is considered questionable and anything greater than 25 is positve. I just went through my first IVF cycle (I miscarried) but my beta was 34.1 at 14 days past retrieval. My doc said that they like to see numbers about 75-100 at about 14 days post retrieval, so mine were a little low. I don't mean to sound negative but 5.5 is really low for 15 days post retrieval. I just don't want you to go through the heartache I just did. I was so hopeful but my numbers never doubled and I miscarried about 6 weeks into the pregnancy. Keep a positive outlook but also be prepared just in case. It's such a hard thing to go through (IVF). Good luck. Keep us posted.

I would wait until Friday. Does your RE suggest that you wait during your 2ww?

no ashmcc no blood i just had spotting for like 3 days but it was so lite in color and also just lite but it was brown and it was just like a little drop

I had a chemical preg in September. My period was due on a Wed, but waited to test w/ HPT & went to Re's office on a friday morning (i guess i was 15 or 16DPO) anyway - HCG was 10 and i was heartbroken. MY RE said only way it was viable preg if maybe i tested too early and ovulated later - but i knew exactly when i ovulated. anyway - i started bleeding full force that sunday and HCG was out of my system by tues AM.

So sorry - the only thing i kept telling myself is at least i have hte ability to get pregnant. Chemical preg are very common. The DR's see them all of hte time. I was also grateful that i had chem preg and didn't miscarry after 6 weeks - didn't need a D&C.

About the sex - i have no idea. But it's good you want to do it!!! my husband and i barely do it in 2WW.
