41y/o trying to conceive

August 06, 2008

I am 41 y/o woman, never been pregnant. I just started to have artificial inseminations. I have had only one and didn't work. I am a very healthy woman, I had a exam with my OB and he said I am capable of having a baby. My periods are very regular, and I still ovulating( I have a transparent discharge every month). My question is: for financial reasons I am going to keep the artificial insemination, but this time will be from home. I will be doing it myself. What should I avoid? and what should I do to get success?

I am use an unwashed semen from a wel-known bank.

Thank You.

From what I was told when we age out eggs outer shells get harder to penetrate so it may take some time to get pregnant at your age even while ovulating each month. A woman under 35 with no issues only has a 20-25% chance each month to get pregnant without any meds to help make more eggs.

You may want to talk to you OB about taking Clomid or Femera to increase your egg production to give the sperm more chances to fertilize.

Things to avoid would be lube, ibuprofen and caffeine.

Deff take OPK's to figure out when exactly you are gonna ovulate and then do the insemination 25 hours later so you dont miss the egg.

Good luck!!

For financial reasons if you cant go to a Dr's office, try the Ovulation kits as chels says. Dont go by the fertile mucous.
