When is the earliest that a 3D u/s can detect the sex of the baby? I have heard that it is much early than a 2D u/s, but I am not sure.

KAN,

Not sure on the 3D ultrasound. I found this product in a pregnancy magazine. I bought 2. I'm going to take one at 10 weeks and one at 12 weeks just to confirm the results are the same. My niece took this test and it told her 'girl' had the ultrasound and she had a girl. You can read the comments from women that have tried their product. Looks pretty accurate to me! Let me know what you think!!

With my experience on the 3D ultrasound when I was 19weeks 2days, it was still hard to tell on the 3D. You have to get the imagines just right. There is a specific time frame they say that you get the best results of a 3D and I believe its like 21 or 22 weeks -30weeks or so. Where they are not to small but not to big.

We had our ultrasound done to check the sex of the baby @ 19weeks 2days, and you could clearly tell its a boy.

I had a friend who did her 2D @ 14weeks, and they clearly could tell it was a boy for her, but she went back at 17 weeks or 20 weeks to confirm, and yep boy.

Wishing you the best Kan...hope you get to find our really soon!!!!

I had a high tech 2d u/s done around 17wks and we could clearly see it was a boy. But I did pay money to have a 3d u/s done when I was 28wks along and was told that between 28-30wks is the best time to see the baby with a 3d u/s :)

Thanks ladies!! A friend of mine found out that she was having a girl with a 3D u/s at 13 wks. We are still debating if we want to know in advance, but I have a while anyway.

July 10, 2008

With ours- we had a 4d one done when she was 12 weeks- and you could see a bit of the "money shot" but not enough. We could clearly tell there was "nothing" there- but they still said it was too early- and at the 16 week ultrasound- she said definitively its a girl- only reason it was a 90% guess was that she had the cord going between her legs and up her bottom- LOL She was like sitting on it- kinda hiding, but she said there wasnt anything interfering with the cord so... girl!

I hope you can find out soon! Im dying to know :)

Maybe it is 28-30weeks. I thought I heard 22-30 but I guess I was wrong...haha. I know they want to do it when they arent to small but not to big. So the adjustment and all that stuff is easier.

They did a small portioned one when we found out the sex. Thats where I got the pictures of his face, which honestly was all I cared about with the 3D was seeing his sweet face. Now since I have to have it done again just to get the 4chambers they are hoping for the 3D to be more clear since at that appointment I will be 23weeks and a few days. But still even then the 3D may not be as clear as it would be.

Was the 4D u/s cool at 12 wks? I am thinking about having one.

July 10, 2008

I thought the only difference between 3D and 4D was that 4D has music or something. Thats what I always heard. I thought that they are 3D no matter what if you can see a 3D picture, and 2D otherwise, if that makes sense...haha.

Mine was 3D at the last appointment because no music added to it. I hear lots of offices when they record the stuff will add music or something to make it 4D, but I could be wrong.

July 10, 2008

It was very cool- overall that was the most exciting ultrasound so far (20 week one is tomorrow though so Im sure that will take the cake) Anyway- she was like dancing all around on that one- and that was the first time I had seen her doing that- she went from a bean to a baby and it was awesome!

When the sonographer flipped that magic switch and went from 2d to 4d it took my breath away- it was amazing! She was moving all around and finally we got to see her face- which is what I wanted to see so badly. She still looked a little strange, like alienish- but beautiful to parents of course. And her little feet and toes were perfect, and so cute! I think it was really one of the coolest moments ever!

July 10, 2008

OMG can't wait to find out if I'm having a neice or nephew! Whoo hooo!!! How ya feeling, Kan?

July 10, 2008

At 12wks with a 3d the baby would still sort of look "alien" like since it wouldn't have much fat at all that early on. Around 28wks, the baby has enough fat that you should see "chubby" cheeks and the baby can fit on the whole screen, after that the baby is too big and you'd only be able to see like the head, then the body, then the legs...and so on. As far as the difference between 3d and 4d, Jolene may be right. We had what was called a 3d/4d one and it did have music to it and was saved on a dvd.

July 10, 2008

No its not music- its like they are getting information from 2 dimensions, and compiling images, 3d and compiling or 4dimensions and compiling. 4d is a little tiny bit clearer that 3d- thats how it was explained to me-? No one said anything about music- its a matter of how many different images are coming together to make the image you see on the screen- that was my understanding but what do I know?

And I noticed that on the side of the ultrasound pictures- it says 2d or 4d depending on what mode they are in- and I dont think it would sy that if it was only 4d with music- maybe someone on here knows and can set us straight- maybe its all the same?

July 10, 2008

either way- 3d or 4d, its def worth getting done- its so awesome!

Thanks Lori!!! I am scheduling my appointment today.

July 10, 2008

lol- welcome to the club! LOL I think the first 3 months were so rough! I was like agh once I was about 13 weeks all the puking stopped, but the clothing situation- oh getting worse and worse! LOL

I hope you arent squeezing that little bean Kan! LOL

July 10, 2008

BTW- here is what I found online about the 3d vs 4d - sounds like its more a matter of seeing things in real time-?

The 2D (2 dimensional) image is the flat black and white picture that looks like an outline or skeletal image of your baby you get at your diagnostic ultrasound. The 3D (3 dimensional) image will look more realistic, like a detail photograph of your baby. The 4D (4 dimensional) actually uses the amazing 3D technology to view your baby in "live motion" like a video. 4D is when you get to see movements, such as kicking, waving, sucking their thumb, or even smiling. A picture is worth a thousand words,

No. My DH stole all my sexy jeans. I've had no puking, which I am so happy about. I've had nausea a whole lot and the smells, omg are awful!!

July 10, 2008

eww- yes smells- so gross. I remember that most days, the ONLY thing I could get down was fruit- and anything other than that was a treat really- it was bad. I remember a few days in particular- puking out the back door of my classroom while no one was looking and then going right on teaching! LOL HOW GROSS> But well well worth it!

July 10, 2008

Makes sense Lori. I guess ours was in 4D as well. Cause he was moving all around, and the lady was trying to get adjustments made to get clear shots. Cant wait till your appointment tomorrow. Soo exiciting! You will see so much!

I know you have had a few more then I have, but still you will see a lot difference from the last one. I was amazed from seeing our little bean @ 7weeks or whatever it was, and then seeing him @ 19weeks 2days, BIG difference...haha.

AMAZING is all I can say and it was all well worth the LONG waits we went through :)

Jolene, I can't believe there is not any place in Columbia to get a 3d u/s done.

July 10, 2008

Hey Kan may be someone has already mentioned it above, just wanted to let u know that my friend found that she was having a boy at her very 1st U/S at 16 W. she was scared of going to a Dr, so didnt do so until weel 16. Can u believe that lol

July 10, 2008

No there is tons of places here. I had one done at my last ultrasound. I will be having another one done on July 28th as well. All the doctors offices here basically do them or most of them do, not all. Baptist def does them, Lexington im not sure if they do. Richland I think they do as well, but we are at Baptist.

July 10, 2008

wow Hope thats crazy! My good friend had an early one done @ 14weeks, mainly because her mom is a nurse and they snuck her in...haha, they could totally tell it was a boy, and little Shawn is 1 1/2 years old and def all boy...haha.

July 10, 2008

I am so excited about the apt tomorrow- it wont get here soon enough. I have to just stay busy today- and then get through tonight- and when I wake up- WHAM it will be here!

Jolene- and even though I get an ultrasound at each apt- its SO much difference you are right- just 4 weeks makes a tremendous difference! Its amazing! I cant believe we are already halfway to meeting Noah and Sydney!
