37 week doctor's check up

October 20, 2008

hi ladies. went to a late dr.'s appointment. i'm only about 60% effaced (she first said 80%) and NO dilation. well she said, so little she wouldn't even say it's 1cm. she also said (with no prompting from me) that by end of week 38 that if i don't deliver AND i have any dilation, that she would induce me??? i don't know why. i guess it could be she worries the baby will get too big for me to deliver vaginally???

but then, there's that increased risk of having an emergency c-section so i don't know what to do. do you ladies have any opinions or suggestions? thanks! oh and i'll post another baby bump pic soon!

Most women are anxious by week 38 so they welcome being induced. However, if there's no real reason for it, you don't have to be. It's up to you. I was induced at 37wks because Cameron was measuring the size of a 41wk baby and after having an amnio we found his lungs were mature..so we went ahead with it. I sort of wish I had waited though, he ended up being my smallest baby so the u/s was way off.

Thanks Sar, i've been talking about it with dh. my baby's on the smaller side, so i worry about delivering her too soon. on the 36 week u/s, she was measuring at the size of a 35 week old fetus. dr. also said that her station is at negative 2, so not sure what that means. thanks for the input, i don't really want to induce b/c i fear it leading to a c-section, otherwise, i wouldn't mind it at all. i forgot, did you deliver vaginally?

i can't believe how BIG Cameron is getting!! it's amazing how fast they grow. was like yesterday that you, fran, and meghan had these tiny little baby boys and now they're just growing like weeds!! he's such a cutie, what a smile! must make you moms proud. :-)

October 20, 2008

Melissa- i can't believe it! i'm SO nervous to be a mommy, but so excited. i don't think i've ever felt these emotions combined in such a strong way before in my life. :-)

Rae- thank you!! i will try to keep my wits about me so i can relay my labor story like all the ladies have been able to. i don't have any children yet, so i don't know what to expect but i am very excited. i will try to savor every moment of this little bundle of joy!!

Thank you ladies, lots of love and hugs!!

Hi Sweetie!!!

How are you? Glad to hear you had a good check up. Sorry there isn't much progress yet though. But who knows...you could be one of the ladies that goes really quickly when it happens. ABout being induced.....if the doc says that they think you are ok for it then I would believe the doc. But I'm sure if you wanted to wait that they would be fine with that too. It is your body...they can't make you come in to get induced. I have heard that as well about the increase chances of a c-sec. But I've never dealt with that so I'm not sure what advice to give about that. I know that is what happened with SBF so you may want to message her and see what advice she has.

Many hugs to you!!! Thinking of you always!

October 21, 2008

yep I had Cam vaginally but being induced was hard this time around. I labored for 27hrs. It's like he just didn't want to come out and then holy crap in ten minutes I dilated the last 5cm or so and in two pushes he was out, so in the end it's like he wanted to fly out. lol. He developed jaundice pretty bad after birth and he's had a clogged tear duct in one eye..still does, stomache reflux and some constipation issues so I've always wondered if I should have just kept him in there longer, ya know.

October 21, 2008

Oli, so sorry you arent making much progress, and I think if your doctors feel comfortable you being induced to go ahead, but if not then dont. Mine says after 39weeks they start them, and we are waiting until 39weeks 6days to do it, if it comes to that.

Only reasons im doing it is because of the family thing at Thanksgiving and doing thanksgiving here and I didnt want to be in the hospital, or about to bust and everyone be on pins and needles. Otherwise I wouldnt do it. I have had 2 people I know be induced, but they were also kinda laboring, they were both induced @ 40weeks basically, and neither had C-Sections, im scared to death about a C-Section its the LAST thing I want. So I feel ya!

Have you started to get the walking down and sex...thats the only piece of advice I can offer...haha, not sure if it REALLY works or not, but heck its worth a shot, to get her to come naturally :)

Also ultrasounds are usally off on weight, so its soo hard to judge what she really is. Just know that either way she is gonna be healthy and perfect!

Love ya!

October 21, 2008

Ive heard of the BD and walking- and just being active in general- like clean the whole house etc... and eat some pineapple, although like Jolene said, I do not know if any of that really works or if they just make it up for pregnant people to feel like they are doing something!

((((hugs )))))

Cannot wait to meet your little cutie pie!!!!

October 21, 2008

hi ladies. the days are dragging, but ... it's to be expected in this last stretch, right? my only real complaint is that i don't really get a restful sleep and every time i get up to go to the bathroom (which is about every hour or so) the pain is excruciating on my back, hips, pelvic bone. overall, it's pretty uncomfortable, but not terrible. i hate to sound so vain, but it's also the stretch marks. LOL. i thought pregnancy would find me less vain about that but apparently it hasn't. LOL.

i don't mind housing her longer, just wonder when it will be time. the not knowing factor for an anal retentive person who likes to plan ... that's the hard part. LOL. honestly though, the other thing that makes me not care that she's not interested in coming out is the fear i'm starting to develop about being a new mommy. :-)

i'm definitely going to start with the BD-ing (although this sounds as fun to me as... breaking a nail down the middle of the nail bed while playing volleyball) and walking more. the problem with going out and walking is that w/in like 15 minutes of being out, i have to run to the bathroom otherwise my contractions are unbearable. LOL

the baby is still moving around, but she has less room obviously. i can tell she's getting too big for my mini-shack she's in. it's like she's living in a nyc studio apartment. LOL.

you know what i just noticed? my jokes are lame. :-(

October 22, 2008

Aww you poor thing! I know how you feel, especially the getting up at nights and being in pain, its like you get out of bed and it feels like your sides are gonna burst, and your pelvic area is going to break wide open. Glad its not just me. Noah sits straight out in front and im thinking do you really have anymore room in there.

It wont be long for either, and yeah that fear of being a mommy starts to sink in and its like ok im fine with you in there...haha. You know the best part about them in there is....THEY ARE QUITE, and well taken care of...haha!

Oh and the stretch marks, mine are only under my belly button area, but if I lay on my right side and get up to pee, they hurt like crap! I lotion up and use the Palmers oil as well, 2-3times a day, and that does help the itching and the pain.

Im here for you Oli, it wont be long for you, and then Noah will be right behind, we just need to enjoy the last few days-weeks whatever, but im like you a HUGE PLANNER, and I cant stand the unknown, hate surprises unless im surprising someone, so not knowing when and where this big event is gonna happen stinks...hehe!

Love ya hun hang in there you are doing a GREAT JOB!!!

October 23, 2008

I laughed out loud at your jokes! :)

The last week is the WORST!!! you go in expecting that you are like 4 cm dialated and didnt even notice... lol!

Wishing you lots of labor dust and a happy quick delivery!

October 23, 2008

Chelsea! you really thought my jokes were funny? i thought i started becoming really corny lately.

thanks for wishing me labor dust and a quick delivery that is all i can ask for, well that and a healthy, kicking, screaming, crying baby. i will feel very blessed with those things. :-)

October 23, 2008

i dont play sport due to potential nail breakage so i liked that one! ;)

I always say to my kids, "fine i will play but if i break a nail there will be hell to pay" and then they say "oh, its ok mom you can just watch us play".... lol

October 23, 2008

OMG- that is too funny chelsea! you diva!

i used to play volleyball in high school (they must have been desperate for players b/c i'm short) and one too many times, i'd get the ball and would crack my nail right in the middle of the nailbed. it is SO painful!!!

that's too cute about your kids saying "it's ok mom you can just watch us play"... what sweet kids!

October 23, 2008

They know that im not playing around when i threaten with hell to pay... lol.... the saying "when mama aint happy, nobody is happy" is more true than ever at my house!

They other night i was super crabby and my 10 yr old son comes over as i am ranting about something stupid and starts to give me a neck massage (or was trying to anyway). Set me into a perfect mood and felt like an ass cuz he did something nice as i was being a jerk. My kids are sweet but also very smart taht way! LOL!

December 31, 2008
