35 weeks 4 days pregnant with twins, brown discharge & lower back pain

October 11, 2008

Hi Dr.s!!! I have a question for you. Since last night around 5:00ish (so for the last 15 hours or so) when I go to the washroom and wipe I have this discharge that has turned into a brownish color but still has that clearish look to it. As of last Monday I was already 3 cm dialted and 90% effaced. Does this mean that labor will begin soon? Also since early this morning I have been getting lower back pain also? At what point should I be concerned and calling my doctor? Is this normal?

October 11, 2008

Hi Liane!

I would call your doctor. I had the same thing when I went into labor. I had a brownish pinkish discharge and bad lower back pain. Is the back pain constant or does it come and go? If it comes and goes try timing them because they could be contractions! I would call your doctor just to be on the safe side! I hope this is it for you hun! xoxo

Sounds like you are close Liane! Congrats!

October 11, 2008

Oh Liane I hope that this is it! I would listen to Maria. Can you time them. People keep asking me that and I get so confused, as I was having that constant cramping and constant lower back pain. I feel that I would know if it was contractions....BUT Michaela when she went into labor with Savannah said it was a lot of back pain and she really didnt know for sure she was having contractions, I think that was what she said. So this could be it sweetie!

I hate you are soo frickin far from your hospital because I know you dont want to rush and it be a false alarm, but hell at the same time we dont want you waiting around because you are 2 hours away. Ohh man this is a hard situation! Please keep us posted and we are all PRAYING hard that this is it!!

Love ya sweetie!!!!!

sounds ok, but always best to go to Labor and Delivery if any questions...

When contractions are frequent and painful and/or water bag breaks, some significant bleeding, then always best to go to Labor and Delivery

October 11, 2008

Liane, I mistook the lower back pain I had, to be the normal kind when infact I was going thru labor contractions which was just like lower back pain. I went through 90% of my labor thinking it was back pain whene I was actually 7 cm dialated. My back pain was constant but would get severe every 40 mins..I still did not realise it was labor.

With the brown discharge and twins, I would call ur Dr.

October 11, 2008

Ta Ta Liane I would safe to say its time to go :)

Dont mistake those pains, and thanks Hope after hearing it from Michaela and you, I really need to pay attention to the lower back pain as well, as I would shrug it off, and being @ 1CM @ 34weeks already, then I know I need to watch EVERYTHING.

Thanks :)

Also they told me with my tilted uterus (back when I had the first ultrasound done), that more then likely I would have back labor, and my mom had it with me and my brother. Liane did your mom have it with you? Chances are you might have lots of back labor and def. mistake it for not being contractions. I mean really do any of us know what contractions are (first timeers I mean). Better to be safe then sorry!

We love ya hun!

October 11, 2008

Good Luck Liane- you are in our thoughts and prayers. Hoping this is the day for the twins!!! Keep us posted : ) We love you!

you will know when labor comes, believe me.. your belly starts to contract, gets hard for few second then loosen up. and it gets really steady if your in labor. You will know when your belly starts the tighty and loosy thing. Your belly gets really hard when your having contracting omg i still remember the pain like it was yesterday. Of course i didnt have no pain meds to go along, it was all natural but it was over in no time :)

October 11, 2008

hey ladies u can also run the risk of back labor if ur baby is posterior facing ie., with the baby's face up, actually facing ur tummy. Ideal position is the babys face facing ur spine.

October 11, 2008

I think Noah is facing the spine, because I feel like his butt and back are on my left side, especially these past few days. He used to be on the left side moving a little more, and now switched to resting on the left side since he dropped. Back labor sounds SUCKY!! But my mom, husband, and good friends have that under control apparently with tennis balls in fuzzy socks. One of my friends used that for her back labor, her mom did rubbed her back for HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS, and she said it made a world of a difference. So Liane if you can get some tennis balls and fuzzy socks get hubby to wrap 2 balls in a sock and constantly be rubbing your lower back! you will thank him later im sure :)

October 11, 2008

Ooops meant he used to be on the right side.

October 11, 2008

Angela- that is not always the case. With my first daughter I had back labor. It had no discomfort in my stomach at all. I felt the entire process in my back only. With my second daughter it was all up front. The back labor was definatly worse. Both girls were in the exact same position when they were born (and I also have a slightly tilted uterus).

October 11, 2008

Tess see thats what I heard from many girls that had back labor they never felt it in the front. Didnt mean it wasnt happening in the front, but the back pain was so much worse, but they shrugged it off and didnt always think it was labor, but thankfully people around them said call the doctor.

I think everyone is different, pain tollerances are different as well, its soo hard to compare :)

October 11, 2008

All are different. I had my daugher and my son and they both felt in the front, it might have been in back but i know my belly was hard as a rock everytime my contraction kicked in. I can see my belly gets really hard everytime. Maybe i was not focusing on my back or anything because i was hurting so bad and just thought it came from my belly I do know your belly starts to contract as hard as a rock everytime you feel contraction.

October 11, 2008

The back pain was coming and going this morning while I was lying in bed. It seems to have tapered off of bit and so has the discharge. I am going to wait this out a bit and see what happens. I will try doing so some stuff around the house and see what happens. Thank you ladies and Dr.Q for the great advice. I am not taking the back pain nor the discharge lightly that is for sure. Oh and by the way my mom had back labor with all three of us kids!

October 11, 2008

Def dont take that back pain lightly ESPECIALLY since your mom had it with all 3! WOW! Come on little babies its time ;)

October 11, 2008

Liane,

I can tell you that the day I went into labor, I was bleeding. I actually went to the hospital because I didn't think this was "normal". My water never broke (I was dilated at 10 and they had to break it). Anyway, it was the start of labor for me. That was at 7am and I ended up going in at 5pm and had my son at 1am.

They are almost here. Wishing you a safe labor :)

October 11, 2008

OH Lain i do remember when i went in the labor and delivery they check my cervic and i did dilated and they told to walk around the hospital to come back so they check my cerivc to see if i dilated anymore and which i did and went to bathroom and i started spotting. They say if you start to spot is the sign that you are enfaced. i think i am saying it right, but they had to induce to break my water. But i do remember spotting and made me stay in the hospital because i dilated 8cm with spotting... Make sure you whatch and anytime you see red streak go have it check that is a sign you dilated some more. the more you dilated a small blood will come out and getting ready to be enface.

October 11, 2008

Thanks ladies I will definately keep that in mind!

October 11, 2008

Hi Liane!

I also had bad back labor. At times I could time them and other times they would be constant pain and pressure. By the time I got to the doctor (for the last time!) I was 7cm dialated and 100% effaced! Definitly keep an eye on things hun and I would put a call in to your doctor just to let them know how you have been feeling! Keep us posted and sending you truck loads of labor dust!

October 11, 2008

Also, I can constant cm with red or pink in it and I had it for about 2 days before Jake was born

October 11, 2008

Liane-- I think this could possibly be it!!!!! hope to hear that you go into labor very soon!!!!
