I would say, make sure you've done ALL the testing that should be done...OBs can think differently than REs...I'm guessing your hubby had an SA done?? Also, check into your fertility insurance coverage if you haven't done so already. I would suggest trying maybe an iui with clomid...then go to one with injectables...if those don't work, move onto ivf.

Good luck....

Kelli, Thanks for posting this. I have a 17 month old little girl, conceived just one month after stopping BCP. We have been ttc#2 since last fall. All tests have come back normal--and I'm on my 3rd cycle of clomid, days 5-9, 100mg. I'm anxiously awaiting my first RE appt at the end of October. Any advice for the first appt?

Kelli, thank you so much for your encouragement, it really helps so much!! So yes, I found out this morning that we only have the 6 on the left ovary to go with. My doctor feels confident that we will get 3 to transfer but said that it is unlikely that we will have any to freeze. I am happy hearing this since at this point, all I am praying for is for 2 or 3 great quality embryos to transfer and then I will just pray that they implant so that I won't need any frozen ones! So we have decided to give it a go and my retrieval will be on Sunday with my transfer tentatively scheduled for Wednesday. Thank you again for helping me to stay positive about this, I feel very good about it and confident that we are doing the right thing!!

McMommy, thank you as well for letting me know your stats, it really helps to hear from others experiencing the same things. Did you get your BFP from your 2 blastocysts?!

Thanks again ladies!!

Wow! I'm sorry you are dealing with 2ndaryinf. Its really tough. Especially when the first child was so easy. It def. can happen with 6 eggs! Remember I had 19 which is awesome, but only 3 took. It only takes that special 1! If there is something with your other ovary, they will probably find out during the ER. Which was nice for me, b/c at the ER they found out the reason for my inf..my eggs were immature. If for some reason, your first cycle fails..they can always step up the protocal and get you more eggs.

Good luck. Advice?? Hmm..The waiting to test sucks. If you want to test sooner, wait til at least 10dpr. Get some Ritz crackers and Sprite and eat that the night after ER, you won't feel well after the anesthisia. After your transfer...wait two weeks or until you test to do any heavy lifting, intercourse, even vacuuming.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Kelli,

I just wanted to congratulate you on your beautiful daughter and tell you that your story has given me so much hope!! I am currently dealing with the same unexplained secondary IF diagnosis and it is horrible. Our stories are very similar... I too have a DS who just turned 3 and was conceived on the 2 month of trying! This time around we have been trying for almost 2 yrs now - we have done the clomid, follistim/IUIs as well and may have had a chemical pregnancy last cycle but that is it. So we decided to take the plunge and do IVF as well. I am currently on Gonal F and should be almost ready for my ER. The last u/s check that they did I had 6 follies on my left side but he cannot find my right ovary, it has been hidden this whole cycle! So I am praying that he finds it and that there are follies on it but your story gives me hope that even if there aren't any and I only end up with 6 that it could still happen. I just wanted to thank you for your story and ask you if you had any advice for me at all? Congrats again :)

Secondary Infertility success story

I wanted to share my secondary infertility story with everyone. My baby girl is 6 months now..but I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for the help of Dr. Q, Veronica and members. Thanks everyone!

We have one beautiful 4 yr old son who was conceived on try number 1 after stopping bcp! Little did we know that number 2 would take 23 months. I was diagnosed with unexplained secondary infertility after doing a semen analysis which was perfect, a good HSG test, and going on clomid for five months. We ended up getting pregers on month 15 when we attempted our first IUI, unfortunately it ended in a chemical pregnancy. In March 08 we tried 100 mg of clomid and follistim injectables with an hcg shot and iui. I got a bfp at only 8 dpo but turned out to be a possible chemical when my beta at 10 dpo was only 3.5 :(

After speaking with our RE, we decided to go ivf.

Our ivf retreival was 6/12. They got 19 eggs, fertilized 15 of them and only 3 took. We transferred 2 on 6/15/08. They said the follicle size showed maturity but the eggs weren't mature..thus my dx is immature oocyts.

We got our Bfp at 10 dpo!!!!

DD 3/5/9

Birth at 38wks2days!!!! 2/21/09

She is currently 6 months old, happy and healthy!
