Hello,
Does an opk test turn negative before you actually ovulate? Mine was negative today (thursday). I had an u/s on Tuesday and my follicle was 22mm and uterin lining was 11mm. The nurse guessed I would ovulate by thursday. I didn't bother with the opk's because of the ultrasound. But I have not had a thermal bbt shift, so I know I haven't ovulated yet.

Long cycles make for long months but the good thing is that you are only on cd13 so your chances are excellent i would think!!! I am on cd11 and hoping to ovulate this weekend or sometime this week.

I am with you Louise i have such a hard time figuring this whole ovulation thing out too! I have been doing the OPK's but i never get a positive so its hard to tell when you should actually start testing if you don't know your periods exactly which i clearly do not!! Good luck you may still have a chance this month you can't ever tell until AF arrives!! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!!

Ovulation occurs after the LH surge which shows up as a + in ur OPK. Depending on the brand used, it can be 24-48 hrs or 12-36 hrs. After the sudden surge, the OPK goes -ve. U will still see a faint line thats coz LH is always present in ur body in lesser quantities. U shud stop testing after the very 1st + OPK

thanks. does ovulation occur while opk is positive, or do you get a surge, then the opk goes back to neg before ovualtion (12-48 hours after the +opk)?

New comment from Dr. Q

Welcome zoe2b,

The thermal shift won't happen until actual ovuation occurs and thereafter...agree, from follicle size, you should ovulate very soon...It may be that you are one of those people that got a false negative value when you should have had a positive...but keep on checking, one never knows if you surge tomorrow or the day after
