Hi Lara, they prefer it in the clinic but because we cant do the sample via masturbation due to pain issues shane has. (which we have now found out is related to the surgery he had as a child to bring his testi done). Which means we have to bd to get the sample and the clinic's rooms are not made up for that, plus I dont think I could handle bd knowing ppl where out side waiting for us to be done if you know what I mean lol. Anyway so because we have to bd we use a special condom that they provide and it has no spermicides in it (in fact its just like really think plastic and has no lube or anything).

Flutter--can I ask why they didn't suggest doing the sperm sample in the clinic? My dh has done several SA and every time he's done it in the clinic and has had no problem. I can see how difficult a sperm sample must be doing it that way...then worrying about rushing it into the clinic, etc.!

Saw the IVF dr and we got some good news.

All our genetics testing came back good so no abnormalities there thank God. Also Shanes FSH has come down from 18.2 down to 17 which is still really high but is slowly coming down which is a good sign.

We spoke to the dr about our issues with the sperm sample and he wants us to try do another one still but we have till 6th June to do it as he now wants it to be done closer to when we start ivf. So we have an appt for 6th June to drop it off but they are willing to take it a few days earlier if we find that we are able to get it randomly eg without stressing and tensing ourselves over it.

He has also given shane Viagra to help with doing the test as he said alot of guys complained about the same issues we have had eg not being able to hold erection long enough coz of stressing, and the condom coming off and he said that he has perscribed viagra to them and these issues have been over come. So we have been told to use it every now and then so we can get use to the time frame needed for it to "kick in" and then use it the morning of the test to give him a "boost". Heres hoping it all works as good as it all sounds in words.

Thanx Jennifer Im TRYING so hard atm not to let it get to me but it seriously is having a major affect on me my drs ungraded my depression the other day frm mild to biplor and I just know that this isnt helping at all...but trying to remind myself it will all make me a stronger and better person and mummy in the end

Attempt #4 at "trial wash/sa" - FAILED

The freaking test didnt happen AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had the nicest morning together. Slept in went out for a late breakfast, snuggled and watched a dvd, ran around the house chasing each one another trying to tickle them lol and then randomly (not planed at all) I get tackled onto the bed. Everything is going along well we had even forgot about doing the test except for the part that we had to put that stupid condom on but it was quickly forgotten and then right in the middle of bd the stupid comdom comes off AGAIN! I mean seriously this time we even used a ring that the ivf clinic gave us in an attempt to keep it on but it still came off and then we try doing things "by hand" and he totally loses his errection and after trying on and off for an hr. I break down in tears AGAIN and ring the clinic.

If it wasnt for that freaking condom coming off I just know we would of got the sample this time.

Anyway the clinic told us to keep our orginal appt to see our ivf dr on Monday and discuss with him what to do coz it cant keep going on like this. If I have to try do another one of these tests ever again I swear they will be admitting me to the "crazy house" and shane feels the same way about himself.

Im thinking of asking the dr if we can make an appt for a "sperm aspiration". As the dr said that if there was dna issues or low count etc from this test then he would have to arrange for us to have the "sperm asperation" as part of our ivf. So my thoughts are why not do the "sperm aspiration" to check and see if that does in acrual fact help us overcome all the sperm issues and if it does cshow that the sperm are in better shape that way then we will pay to have them froozen or just pay for another "sperm asperation" when we start Ivf in june. At least this way if we have the "sperm aspiration" now and it doesnt overcome the sperm issues we can start looking for a sperm donor now.

Im trying to remain positive on all this but atm Im just becoming so worn out and emotionally drained by all this

aww hun try not to let it get to you. I can remember during my ttc, having sex and not "feeling into it" and just like Oh god I'm not pleasing him, we arent doing it for the fun of it anymore, he doesnt enjoy this, etc. so you're not alone. Trust me, if my DH had to have sex in a horse size condom early in the morning just to get another SA done after ttc for so long, we would have the same problem. I even remember there were times he couldn't "get up to standards" so to speak or perform normally because we were ttc so much and I think sometimes the guys get a mental block about it. Its frustrating for them at times, they are programmed to fix things and take care of things, then comes along this problem they can't fix, and it involves their sex life, and sex isnt just for pleasure or fun anymore... and honestly that effects men. It effects your relationship too- you guys are not alone trust me. Our sex life has been put through the ringer... just try not look at it as "job" try to make it fun, dont talk about the sex like you HAVE to do it, just do it, make him think you're doing it cuz you "want" him that bad... thats what I did sometimes. I had to pretend I was that horny LOL. I never told my DH when I was ovulating or might be fertile, not until after we did the deed for that day. Its too much added pressure sometimes.

All you can do is keep at it, let him know that in spite of everything you love him, and that all of this will be worth it when you get pregnant =)

And trust me its not cuz you werent pleasing him... its all the other little factors that play into sex when ttc.

Grrr Im feeling like such a failure atm. This morning we where ment to do shanes repeat "trial sperm wash/sa" We woke up early had brekkie and then got to it :OP

We have to use a special condom that is given to us by ivf clinic as he experiences bad discomfort with masturbating.

Anyway the condom is so freaking big that I swear a horse's doodle (lol) would fit in it lmao

So any who it is really uncomfortable for me coz thats all I can feel whn we are having sex to get the sample, but I grin and bear it as I know it is all going towards us having a baby.

But then today randomly the condom comes off (we've used the condom 3 times b4 and this has never happened nor have they ever been this big) and well gets stuck in me to the point I had to go to hospital to remove it *blushes*

Anyway after having sex for like 15mins before the condom decided to come off. He was still not ejectulating. We rang ivf clinic and they said try masturbating for a little while till he starts to feel discomfort. They said that the spermie would probly not take much to come as we had been having sex etc

Anyway after he put up with discomfort for 15 mins I still couldnt get those freaking sperm to come out to play grrrr So once again we ring ivf clinic and they tell us to stop trying and come in to see them.

When we get there they exam and do u/s on him to check why the sperm where coming and then turn and say it must be coz Im not pleaseingf him enough...it made me feel so low.

Anyway we complained about the nurse that said that and spoke to someone else and they said it was probly jst a random thing and possibly due to both of us being very tired from moving a friend the day yday.

I know its not my fault but I still feel bad and was already feeling bad and like it was my fault before the nurse said that.

Any way we have re-booked and will try to do test next tuesday again....it will be our last chance for a few wks to do it as my op is coming up so hopefully we can get the sample next wk....

Jennifer ~ yeah they thought he had a stroke but it turned out to be a really bad sinus infection that went thru his blood to his brain. This all happened a few wks back. Its all cleared up now but I think the infextion has effected his memory but our gp is away atm so we have to wait till he comes back.....

arggghhhh Im now stressed because we recieved a bill in the mail for his repeat chromozone test and its gonna cost us $600 I mean wtf we didnt have to pay that the 1st time and I asked the doctor if there was a charge and he said no. But the best part is is that they want the bill paid by tomorrow that will mean our bank account will be $0 till we gwt paid next coz we jst had to pay for our car to be fixed and some things for the wedding. arrrrghhhh does this ever end

oh flutter.... hunny i am so sorry. im at a loss for words... i will pray for you. I def. think he needs to see a Dr cuz the forgetting is obvious. He can try to make excuses but it kind of sounds like effects from the stroke... he had a stroke? i missed that. Did you post about it?

I am so so sorry.. but if his forgetting is that bad lately then try not to be too annoyed at him he probably honestly forgot.

I dont know what to say except I'm here for you and I hope it gets better...

Arrrrgh I so annoyed with Shane atm!!!!!!!!!!

I was lead to believe that we had to do his sa this morning (10th dec). But last night I discovered it was infact ment to be yday. He made the appt etc so I only knew what he told me about the date and time and then all of a sudden last night he looks at the card in his wallet and discovers it was yday. What makes it worse is that the ivf clinic rang and left a voice msg reminding him on monday that the sa was the next day (tuesday) and whn I asked him "so if definatly wednesday?" he said yes right after listening to the msg.

Now I have jst rang to explain it all to the clinic and we cant get another appt to do it till 6th jan 09 which is the day after we where ment to get the results. Plus we have to pay the total $500 out of pocket with out any refund frm gov (we have a safety net thing her once you pay a certain amount the gov either pays or refunds you 80%) Plus the date we will prob get the results now is going to be the 1st day of 2wks wrk for me which im already takeing a wk of because my surgery will be then. So now Im going to have to take another day of wrk. Which will mean that they prob wont want me coz the have a policy that it you take more then 50% of the wrk period off then they jst goive you the rest off without pay. Which mean thats a further $800 we will be losing.

So in total thats at least $1300 we are losing coz he got the days mixed up for the test.

Arrrrgggghhhh we so dont need this extra stress (emotionally or finacially) atm.

His beating himself up about it pretty majorly but Im jst so annoyed. Oh and to top it off I asked him has he been taking his meds reg (coz I havent been home whn he normally takes them)to try help the sperm issue and he informs me he has forgotten to take them for the past 2wks!!!!!!!!! arggghhhhhh......

He tellls me he wants this as much as I do. And I believe him coz if you could see how much his annoyed at himself etc atm, it breaks my heart seeing him so annoyed. But then I can t help but wonder why if he wants this so b badly he can forget hios meds and get the days mixed up for the test?????

But then on the other side of being annoyed I really concerned coz ever since he had his suspected stroke the other wk he has been REALLY forgetful, I mean Ive had to remind him what day it is at times and that its a wrk day, plus he forgot our way home the other day when we went for a drive to a place we go pretty reg etc Im really worried but he says his jst tired and forgetting stuff but Im begining to think its more....

ARRRRGH all I want to do is cry Im so annoyed and worried, my emotions are alll over the place

Oh pooh pooh head I jst rang to try make an appt to see shanes andrologist at the ivf clinic for b4 Christmas so we can get his results back for the trail wash sa he has to do this wednesday and they told me they are closing on the 15th of dec for the christmas break and wont be apen till the 2nd wk of Jan so now we have the stress of wondering what his results are over christmas.....grrrrr

I have one that just sits beneath my nose. I don't use the one that goes on my mouth. My machine is pretty quiet actually. It's one of those things that I don't think I'll ever fully get used to it, but I know it's better for my health. Some nights are better than others....good luck!

Hi Lara, thanx for your comment. We have booked in for him to do the sleep study but it is in such high demand it would appear that we have to wait till like feb which is annoying but we've tried 5 different places and they all have long waiting lists and feb is earliest....I too have always had an issue with snoring on and off and it is because of a cleft palete I had as a baby so I know that differing things can cause it.

The look of those c-pap machine looks pretty freaky. What does it feel like? Im thinking if shanes sleep test shows he does in fact have sleep apnea then that will have to be the way we go for him.

Flutter- I had to respond to the SLEEP APNEA thing. I have sleep apnea but it isn't always related to weight. I am overweight which is part of my contributing factor, but I have a friend who is very thin and she has sleep apnea as well. When I went to my ENT he told me I had very large tonsils, adnoids and a lot of extra tissue at the back of my soft pallet. You can get surgery but because I'm a singer I opted not to do that at this time. I have been using a C-Pap machine for 2 years now and it helps me sleep better and I don't snore! It IS worth it to go through the sleep study and get it diagnosed because it's a health issue. People who have sleep apnea have a higher chance of heart attack, etc. Feel free to ask any questions and good luck to you!

We saw our new adrologist today and he is so lovely. His doing another sa and trail wash/dna frag on shane as well as re-checking his hormones and chromozones all again. We have to do all that on and b4 9th dec and hopefully can get appt to get results on 19th dec. He has also informed us of a place that is so much cheaper on the money front for ivf. The ivf clinic that we saw him at charges up to $10,000 for ivf+icsi which does not include meds. But this othet place we pay a gap fee from $1500-$3000 and it includes half the meds plus he works frm there as well. Only down side is that my gyno doesnt he only wrks with the clinic we went to today but apparently we may be able to wrk something out. Anyway depanding on the test results and my weight loss and if we can get into the cheaper clinic it means we can prob do our first round of ivf maybe in april but Im thinking it would be best to do it in june after our wedding coz we wont have the stress of the wedding to worry about etc.

We have just gotten back from seeing our gp and getting my boyfriends SEMEN ANALYIS following are his results:

Ref Range

Volume 1.0 ml (2-6)

Sperm count 30 x10^6ml (20-250)

Normal forms 17% (>15%)

Active motility 0%} ACtive motility

>=25%

Sluggish 20%} or

Non Motile 80%} Active+sluggish

> = 50%

The gp said the only way is IVF.

What could of caused this?

Is there anything that can be done to help the active motility rate?

We so need any advice anyone can give coz we so can NOT afford IVF

I also have pcos and endo and do not ovulate on my own. Only with the help of clomid.

If IVF is the only way then our dream of having a child is over. :'O(

Please Please Please HELP us....
