New comment from Megan C is a MOMMY 12/31/09!

Nany-

The protocol is for anyone under the age of 35 you should try for at least 1 yr before being tested for infertility. If you have recently stopped birth control pills/patch or ring then add 3 mos on for your cycles to become normal on their own. If you were on Depo Provera then it takes approximately 6 mos for cycles to get regular again & then you can start TTC. There is ONLY a 20% chance per cycle of conceiving when intercourse is timed absolutely perfectly, so most couples will not conceive within 2 months.

There are some things you can do in the mean time to increase your chances of conception though. Start tracking your cycles & figure out how long they are from the beginning of one period to the next. If your cycles are around 28 days then you should ovulate somewhere around CD 14. You can also purchase OPK's (ovulation predictor kits) at any pharmacy to help you determine exactly when you are most likely to conceive during each cycle. These tests will give you a + approximately 24-48 hrs prior to ovulation occuring & this is when you would start to have intercourse every day for the next 3-5 days. This small window is when you are most likely to conceive. If after doing this, you still do not conceive after a year (or longer if you have recently stopped a form of birth control) then you should make an appointment to see your OBGYN. Good Luck & the most important thing is to just be patient & let things happen naturally because in the vast majority of women time is the only treatment needed. While you will see a huge percentage of the women on this site have issues with infertility, you have to remember that this site is geared towards women who are having issues conceiving & does not represent the average population. Good Luck & try to enjoy all of the practice!
