hi guys,

i too am having similar symptoms to all of you.

im 24. in the last 4 years ive put on almost 30 pounds gradually..and my periods started to get scantier..subsequently. i get like day 1 full and after that jus spotting on the 2nd day.

the funny thing is i was made to wear this acupunture slipper at a store which instantly pressues all your pressure points on the sole of ur feet..and particular points that hurt me real bad after i wore the slipper on my foot were all connected to the sexual organs..of the body. if all was fine inside..then that slipper shdnt hurt..but now i see a connection between acupunture..and my scanty period..and the weight gain.

Hi- I also booked my first app. with the acupunctuist today..first app. is Thursday night..kinda the same price first visit $80.00 (2 hr app. ) then the subsequent visits are $60.00 for 1 1/2 hours. She reccomended 1 time a week.to start.

I am excited to see if this will help as we have unexplained infertility.. especially since we already have 1 child...

I also tried to get in with another RE with Reproductive Science Centers of New England.. the first RE I called was not so accommodating with my schedule..since she wants to meet with both of us, and DH travels.. so I am hoping the same center different but this one is the next town over the first one was in a diffeent state but like 50 minutes away...anyways I hope the RE will be able to have more flexibility..and since we both need to go, it is much harder with an RE who is so booked with patients.

Anyways..happy new year!!

i just talked with an accupunctuist this morning and made my 1st appt - he also talked very much about how it can help fertility. I will be going thru IVF this at the end of jan and hope that it will help the process as well as the stress that seems to come along with the TTC. The cost is $85.00 for the first one and $75 thereafter. He says for IVF he reccomends once a week and with just regular fertiltiy issues he reccomends twice a week..... kinda pricey but if it can help then well worth it!!!

Good luck to you in 2008!!!

Hi again Caryn,

Neither of my friends were on any medication. Also, just so you know, I didn't have any issues either. I went on Clomid despite the fact that I was ovulating just for a boost...and it worked.

Regarding whether or not the acupuncturist needs to be a specialist, well, it's best that they are as they are specially trained to work with fertility issues. Would you rather see your general practitioner or a ob/gyn for your fertility issues? It's really the same thing. These people study for years, and those with specialties spend more time learning about and treating those specialties.

I couldn't get into the one my friends went to without a wait, but she specialized in fertility and had a 90% success rate. You'll see very high success rates with those who specialize. It drops with those who don't. Although, those who don't specialize in fertility can also do a good job, particularly when it comes to relaxation.

Good luck. I do recommend it, and I miss it. I'm sure I'll be going back when I hit my third trimester and am full of fun aches and pains.

Thanks Alikk- All GREAT infromation. I have an acupuncturist (sp?) in my town, and think I may contact him/her..however wondering if it needs to be one that specializes in fertility? I think I will do some research regarding this topic. One more thing- did your friends that did acupuncture, were they also using fertility drugs like you were?

I am not on any and at this point we both do not seem to have any issues and already have a 2 yr old together..we have TTC for 1 yr. Thanks!

Hi Caryn,

I believe in acupuncture for fertility whole-heartedly. In fact, there are studies out there that say women who go through IVF with the addition of acupuncture are something like 50% more likely to conceive than those who go without acupuncture. Don't quote me on that 50%, but it is a number similar to that.

I went because I had two friends who had success going to an acupuncturist who specialized in fertility (if you go, be sure to go to one with this specialty). My first friend had endometriosis and had been ttc unsuccessfully for two years. It took her one month of treatment with the acupuncturist to conceive. Another friend had been ttc for 8 months with no luck (and no explanation) and she, too, got pregnant after the first month of treatment.

I went to my acupuncturist for two months. Her work made a difference. It lengthened my cycle, delayed ovulation, brightened my menstrual blood, reduced spotting, and eliminated clots. On the third month she was out of town. I replaced acupuncture with massage around ovulation (both my husband and I got it). Also, I went on Clomid that month...and that was the month I got pregnant.

So, in all honesty, I can't say acupuncture "worked" for me, although I would definitely say it helped. I saw the changes that were supposed to work in my favor...the timing of things just wasn't there. Deep down I do believe it would have worked had I given it the time and had my acupuncturist not gone out of town.

And, if nothing else, it is a very relaxing experience. And, I believe, relaxation and the elimination of stress is the best thing to do when ttc. I look back on the month that I got pregnant and yes, Clomid was a factor, but what really stands out to me was how calm and relaxed I was (as opposed to previous months when I was stressed over it). And I certainly credit acupuncture and massage with my lower stress level.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Hey Caryn,

Do you tend to ovulate early? When I was going to my acupuncturist I told her I had short periods (3-4 days) and tended to ovulate early (twice at CD9, but averaged CD11). She explained to me that she was going to try to lengthen my period in order to delay ovulation. After one month of treatment I had a five day period and ovulated on day 13. So, if it's something you're worried about, you can always try acupuncture...

Hey Caryn!

I am the exact same way. When I was younger my periods would last 5-7 days. Now though they last maybe 3 days if that! Usually day 1 is medium 2 is heavy and 3 is close to non-existent! So I wouldnt worry like Dr.Q said. It looks like alot of people are just like you! Wishing you tons of baby dust for this coming cycle :)

Just concerning to me becuase the older I get the shorter it gets...When I was in my 20's it was like 4-5 days..not its barely 2 days long...and since we can't seem to conceive I was wondering if this is the problem.. but according to DR Q its not an issue..

Hi- Looking for advice ...

I am noticing my period is getting shorter and shorter. Although it comes consistently every 28-30 days, its very short. I just got it on Wed. and today is Friday morning and its over. I didn;t even need to wear a pad to bed last night. I checked my temp this morning and its 98.0 Usually I drop to my baseline temp which is 97.7...can someone tell me what might be going on?I am 31 yrs old and trying to achive pregnnacy # 2...TTC 1 yr.

I had an initial fertility work up, all tests cam back fine.

thanks
