What are the chances of conceiving with endometrosis? I have a regular 26 day cycle, but with severe pain, cramps, lower back pain, pain when unirnating, bowel movements during period. I have been trying for 2months, but I am worried I won't be able too. Are you better of trying on your own for 1 year or undergoing lap surgery?

Thanks so much for your fast responses and advice. I have decided that if I do need the surgery, I am going to go to a specialist. I will keep you posted after my second ultrasound. Thanks again for all the help!

Hi Ashley,

Cysts should be removed if on ultrasound they were noted to be "complex"...simple cysts, hypoechoic, can be left behind as these are very common. It's up to you to figure out what kind of cyst you may have....Also, endometriomas can be removed, especially if >3cm to help with fertility and pain. We hope that for the most part, you should be able to conceive on your own. Check the official reading from the radiologist and we'll all go from there...Good luck and keep us posted..

Well I got my results.....I have 3 cysts on my left ovary and my right ovary is covered, I go back in 6 weeks for another ultrasound, and if they are still there, they want to do surgery. Do I have any chance of conceiving on my own?

Hi Ashley,

The ultrasound may determine little about fertility outside of seeing if you have very large uterine fibroids. It is unfortunately not unreasonable for your doc to have you wait a year, and most would give this type of recommendation, along with not performing the surgery in some cases...Hang in there, and our community will help you get there. Good luck, and keep us posted...

****************babydust***************

I had an ultrasound(pelvic, and transvaginal) the other day, I am waiting on the results of it. Would this test help determine any problems with fertility. My doctor won't perform the lap surgery, she seems to think I don't have endo. But I have been living with this pain every month for 10 years. She wants me to try to conceive for 1 year before she will do any tests.

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Ashley,

Believe it or not, it is controversial wheather mild endometriosis creates infertility to begin with. Most of us clinicians do believe, however, that it does affect fertility to a certain degree, however. We know that severe endometriosis can mechanically close tubes, and it sounds like your's may be severe, given the extent of your symptoms. It may be wise then to at least get an HSG to confirm your tubes are open. If they are, you can continue trying on your own and if then you don't get pregnant, consider getting surgery with immediate fertility treatments form an RE done right afterwards to gain a "maximal" benefit from surgery.
