Hi, I am trying to get pregnant. I have had 3 months of regular periods (28 day cycles...perfect) and before this I had 3 months of irreg cycles of 6 weeks each approx. I have a 19 month old who is still breastfeeding at night (3 times a nite both breasts) I have read that breastfeeding will prevent me from getting pregnant and I am thinking this may be the case. Is there anything other than...

Hi Gerry, Iam sorry I was under the assumption you were in a hurry coz of the age factor. Usually it is recommended that 6 months of trying + 35 yrs or older, its good to see the Dr. Since you are ovulating by yourself, simple thing like timing intercourse may the do the trick. So, start using the OPKs they are real good.

Good Luck to you :)

I believe that nursing is only a hinderance for TTC when you are nursing full-time. You're just at night and it does sound like you're ovulating on your own, so you should be okay.

Thanks HopeN, We have been trying for 2 months but if I have been ovulating early maybe we weren't "trying" early enough (tough timing with holidays and visitors!) I am surprised that you recommend a Dr in 2 short months....due to my age? Or just to get on top of what is up???

Hi Gerry, if you are having regular periods, then it means u are ovulating and as long as you are, you can become pregnant. Usually, when one breast feeds, the harmone prolactin is higher than normal and this can cause fertility issues. But, since you are already ovulating by yourself, start using OPKs and time the intercourse and if after 2 months of trying, nothing, then please see a Dr.

Dr Q please correct me if Iam wrong

Hi, I am trying to get pregnant. I have a 19 month old who is still breastfeeding at night (3 times a nite both breasts) I have read that breastfeeding will prevent me from getting pregnant and I am thinking this may be the case. Is there anything other than weaning my son that I can do to increase my chances of conception? I am 38yo so I know my clock is ticking!!! Oh, I didn't have any problems getting pregnant the first time.
