Hi Everyone!

I was just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for your breast milk to dry up? Jake is 2 weeks 1 day old and I have been wearing tight sports bras constantly hoping to dry them up. I thought my milk was gone so I started going to bed braless again but last night I woke up with leaking boobs! So I was wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for the milk to completely ...

Hi Maria,

I started breastfeeding in the hospital but switched to all bottles by the time we went home.... I think it took about a month before it completely dried up - but there was only about 24-48 hrs where I was engorged and uncomfortable. As far as I know a tight bra or ace bandage won't help to dry up your milk, it will only help to keep "the girls" in place so you arent as sore if you are engorged. I slept without a bra once they stopped hurting and they still dried up! lol

When I breast fed with my first. I was informed to go to the grocery store, steal a piece of cabbage leave and put them on each breast. Now I never did it... But I heard from not only my OB, but from some of the nurses it works great! I guess it is worth a try if it bothers ya. BTW, your little guy is gorgeous!!!. You and your husband did a great job there. Sorry if what I said sounds silly. But they say it is true.

I breastfed for 2 years, so when I stopped I was fortunate for them not to be engorged! There are herbs that you can take in capsule form for a fews days (sorry of forget the name of them) and it will dry them up. If you go into a PCC or Whole Foods, they should have them....

if you google herbs or foods that dry up breast milk - lots of info comes up!

hi maria, i wish i knew the answer to this, but i don't. i only know my friend b/f for 3 months and then tapered off and then just stopped altogether and it took about 3 weeks for her milk to dry up. also, aren't there meds you can take to suppress the milk production? don't know if you want to go that route, but ... i thought there was.

did you produce some liquid before you gave birth? i get some clear liquid already.

It was a couple of weeks before my milk was completely gone. One thing I did, and this might sound funny but I think it helped, was I bought an ace bandage and had my husband tightly wrap my boobs (over my bra). Just an idea :) I even slept like this :(
