I just spoke with the RN at my OB's office. She seems to think it is low blood sugar and wants me to eat small meals every two hours throughout the day. Keep liquids and solids sperate.

Also, she said the heart beating strongly could be due to all of the blood pumping and the heart working harder due to entering the 2nd trimester. She is going to check my urine for glucose on Saturday (since i have an appt. then anyway), and then at 26 weeks i will do the gestational diabetes test. She mentioned too that since i have been getting sick after i eat a meal, my body is going into a mini panic mode and my heart will race and i will start to get anxious that i will throw up. she said to follow up with my primary care doctor and make sure it is nothing cardiac, but she thinks it is due to low blood sugars and stress. hope that helps you a little hope!

Casey, How do u know that ur levels are dropping and not rising? Did u test? I have the same issue..racing pulse after a meal. Im trying to get answers but my ob didnt have one..My sugar levels were up and down during the pregnancy which is expected.

Urs could be because ur body is pumping up too much insultin after a meal that ur sugar level drops down..and then afterwards ur liver pumps up glucose from the reserve to meet the demand..

But I would like to know too..abt the heart racing after the meal. If u do find out why ur heart races after a meal, let me know.

I wouldnt' say gestational diabetes, since in most cases your sugars would be high. But with one of my pregnancys I had low blood sugars so bad that I'd see spots and get dizzy, at first my ob just said to eat every 2 hours and make sure it's protein to help keep my sugars up, after a few wks of feeling the same and once I started to see spots, I was pulled out of work since I drive a school bus for a living, anyways, key is to eat smaller more frequent meals and to include protein in your snacks/meals. Hope you feel better soon :)

New comment from Dr. Q

Isn't terribly abnormal to have these symptoms, but mention this to your ob, as low blood sugar isn't a big concern in young healthy pregnant women unless on insulin...
