Ladies...a bit about me. I am 38 and I have been ttc for about 14 months. I took 6 months of Clomid unsuccessful and just finished a natural cycle. I ovulate on my own and we are using meds to super-ovulate. I have never been pregnant before. I am starting Femara 2.5mg days 3-7 tomorrow and I thought it would be great to reach out and chat with others who are on the drug or who have a succ...

New comment from Amoura

Hi everyone

Kayladawn, that's such great news! Congrats!! Read on your other thread about your beta doubling well, that's a really good sign everything is progressing normally :)

Aprilah, i can be 'sure' about when i'll ovulate because of the trigger HCG shot. Generally, women ovulate 36 hours after the shot, so actually this month, i ovulated early sat morning, which was CD15 (which i also felt as hideous pains for a good few hours!). When you get the positive OPK, you will also know that ovulation is around 12-48 hours away, so start intercourse straight away, and keep going for 2-3 days. We can't be sure exactly, but with trigger shots and OPK it is pretty accurate to within a day or two.

Im 1DPO today! SO excited to finally be in the 2WW...this month seems to have dragged on and im happy on 13 days til i'll either get AF or POAS. I have decided not to test early, and will wait for AF to show...i feel its such a big waste of money every month testing 2-3+ before AF only for her to come right on schedule, so im not doing it until she doesnt show. DH will also be travelling around that time, so i'd rather wait for him to come back before i test. I am very hopeful this month...i think it'll be a big blow if its BFN :(

CD12 today, hoping to see my OPK light up soon. Unlike some of you ladies this month has been draaaaaaging for me. I just want to know if I respond to this drug! UGH!

Now, I believe that the OPK's give you the positive result a couple days before you actually ovulate. So if Im textbook, I should see that light up maybe even today? Sorry if I asked this already, but have your experiences been that you ovulate around day 14? Amoura, you sound pretty confident that you will ovulate on day 14?

Im on 5mg of femara, I guess I didnt really question it. He didnt say anything to me about an advantage over the 2.5.

It is great that we are all within a few days of each other. Awesome!

Wow jesika - yep I am CD7 today! nothing crazy going on just waiting to go in on Tuesday to see my follies - CD11 for me.

I am hoping for 2 follies this time - I only had one last time althought it was 24mm which is very good. I just want 2 at 20mm!!! Is that so much to ask!!! LOL!

Let me know what your doc says about 2.5 vs 5mg - I am going to ask the same for next cycle if this one doesn't work.

Amoura - so you don't take the trigger? Are you just using OPKs?

HI Jesika,

ive also heard that having 3+ eggs increases chances of pregnancy significantly, but i think, especially with Femara, it is rare to produce 3 eggs or more. With clomid, it does happen, but the way that Femara works seems to inhibit too many follicles maturing, but does make them better follicles, so Femara and Clomid have about the same success rate.

Im on 5mg, and both cycles have had 2 follicles, but each time one seems to stop growing, while the other grows A LOT (CD11 U/S had 2 15mm follies, CD13 U/S had 20mm and 15mm - so 5mm in 2 days is quite a lot, the norm being 1-2mm a day). I hope that both follicles do have eggs, just to increase my chances. My RE is saying that my response is absolutely perfect and they dont hope for much better from Femara, so im happy. SO, if you're getting 2 follies from only 2.5mg thats great!

Im now CD14, will probably O tonight or early Saturday, so starting BD tonight. I'll take Sunday as 1DPO, so i'll take a HPT on 27th March.

Good luck ladies!

Hey girls,

Well Im on CD 8, and go in on Monday for my follicle scan, looks like Im right on the same schedule as you Dawn. :) I am in the same boat, and cant believe how fast this month is going. I barely even remember starting to take the femara. I was noticing that some women are on 5mg, and Im on 2.5mg... I wonder if 5 produces more eggs or what. Im gonna have to ask my doc. Im really hoping for 3-4 eggs this time around. I keep getting 2 eggs and nothing... I read that your chances definately increase if you have 3-4 eggs. So im keeping my fingers crossed.

Im glad to hear all of us around the same time... Hopefully some of us can become prego!! :) Im praying for everyone!! :)

Hi everyone - so I am CD 5 and i feel like this cycle is already going by fast - which will be a good thing for that 2ww! i go in next Tueseday for my follicle scan. My dr. kept me on the Femara 2.5 which is fine - hopefully there will bemore than 1 follie this time.

I liked the trigger shot because exactly what Amoura said - you know when you ovulate and you can time iui and intercourse around that to make sure the sperm is there to meet the egg. I am pretty sure last cycle I might have o'ed before my IUI - like 24 hours after my shot and then we had the IUI 36 hours after. So maybe it was a little late.

I definitely feel the first try with IUI was a "test" run. I now feel like I know so much more and know how my body will react which is nice.

Heres to BFP for all of us!!

Sounds good! So when do you do your trigger shot then?

My dr told me to test days 8-18 so maybe if I dont detect ovulation he can give me that shot yet so this cycle isnt lost.

Yes, keeping sane is vital! I feel like Ive lost it already. lol

My RE gave me the decision to do the trigger shot or not...i think the only real advantage it has is that you know pretty clearly when you will ovulate, so easier to time intercourse or IUI. If you're keeping track of your LH surge via OPKs, its still very likely you will know when you will ovulate, so not much lost there. The HCG does make sure you O, so some drs who dont normally use it, will give it if a patient hasnt O'd by a particular cycle day.

Anyway, im not sure if it will lower your chances or anything...all these numbers, etc just make me even more obsessed, which is not a good thing!

I have heard that while on Femara and Clomid, the line on an OPK will not be as dark as it is if one isnt using them, so an almost positive is usually a positive with someone using these fertility meds.

We're so close in our cycles, im CD11, so lets try and keep each other sane for the rest of the month, particularly in the 2WW!!

Amoura, thats great news! I hope this works out for you this cycle!

Ive been a little discouraged by everyone doing the trigger shots. My dr hasnt mentioned that at all. He isnt doing ultrasounds or anything to check follie size. All Im doing is taking the OPK's & then when I get a positive they are going to do a 21 day test to ensure I ovulated. Thats it. So I dont know if my chances are low going the route without the shot? UGH

I am seeing an OBGYN for this treatment.

Sorry to hear about AF Dawn :( I hope the next cycle works better for you.

April, good to see another Femara girl here! Im also on 5mg, and first month i took it i O'd CD14/15 (i had the HCG shot). I took it CD4-8. This month i took it 3-7, and am CD11 now and have 2 follicles again, both at 15mm. My lining is at 6, so dr will wait and do another U/S in 2 days and we'll probably do the trigger shot on CD13-14 again. Looks good this month :)

Ive not heard of Drs not monitoring Femara cycles...?? Are you seeing an RE or or an OB/GYN??

My DHs SA came back AMAZING. He has 80% motility and 41 million sperm/ml! DR said this is way above average, so with his super sperm and my 2 follies, lets hope something actually happens this month!! Im hoping both follies grow to maturity, so we have 2 to work with, and with them being so close in size, im hoping they will.

Dawn, Im on 5mg of Femara although this is my first cycle on it.

When have you all ovulated on Femara? Today is CD9 for me, started the OPK's yesterday, no positive yet. My dr isnt doing any monitoring at all, I hear you all talking about follie size & whatnot. I hope my dr isnt neglecting something??

Best of luck

Happy Monday everyone! So AF arrived on Saturday and of course it was in the middle of a wedding a shower I was throwing for a very good friend of mine _ so I homnestly don't feel like I have processed it yet but am moving forward. I am already CD3 and have a call into the dr. to see if anything needs to change this cycle.

What level of Femara is everyone on? I did 2.5 for days 3-7? Has anyone seen different results with different levels etc...??? With that level last cycle I only had one follie at 24mm - which is good but I would have liked to have seen more...we will see this cycle.

Let me know where everyone is in there cycle too so we can all keep up with eachother! Here is to LOTS of BFP this time around!!!

Talk to everyone soon!!

I ovulated the first Femara cycle, not the 2nd but did on the 3rd with a great size follicle. I had the ovidrel injection and now here I am. Keep the faith....it will happen! :)

Thanks Jesika & Not frus!

Good luck Jesika, I hope this is it for you!

I dont have any kids, this will be my first. My DH had his SA done a couple weeks ago (finally) & it was all normal. I recently switched OB's because my first one was just not helping me. She didnt want to give me drugs & it was obvious I needed them. So this new Dr is great & he prescribed the Femara right away. I have had no side effects which has been wonderful. I take my last pill on Sunday & hope it works this cycle! I so want to be pregnant this time but I think I would be thrilled to just ovulate.

Not frus, thanks for the encouragement! Im so happy for you! Did you ovulate every cycle on the Femara?

Hey April, I wanted to share my success story with you. I tried Clomid as well, 50 mg and no ovulation, not to mention the NASTY side effects. My RE switched me to Femara and after the 3rd cycle of Femara with timed intercourse I am due in less than 5 weeks! Best of luck girlfriend and welcome to the site. Tons of baby dust coming your way. And everyone else still waiting on their Femara BFP's...baby dust ladies!!!!

Anyone else on Femara out there or had success with Femara?

Ladies...a bit about me. I am 38 and I have been ttc for about 14 months. I took 6 months of Clomid unsuccessful and just finished a natural cycle. I ovulate on my own and we are using meds to super-ovulate. I have never been pregnant before. I am starting Femara 2.5mg days 3-7 tomorrow and I thought it would be great to reach out and chat with others who are on the drug or who have a success story to share. Please feel free to share your side effects, thoughts and experiences in general. I am also curious to see if there are some of you that switched from Clomid to Femara and got a BFP.
